Thread resurrection seeing as it's Ashes time again.
Incredible fourth and fifth days in the first Test. Ok, the pitch was as flat as a witch's tit but for Cook and Strauss (and Trott) to start jumping all over records set in the 20s by the great Jack Hobbs and Herbert Sutcliffe (and Frank Woolley) - and at the bloody Gabba of all places - signals that we should be in for another great series.
Let's just hope that we get a few more result pitches and less 624-2 pitches later in the series.

Well actually the HUGE story in cricket at the moment is the Colin Metson/Matthew Maynard situation at Glamorgan CCC and the subsequent meltdown at the club.

Amazing bowling from Anderson in particular last night
If Cook and Strauss can see off the new ball... we should be good to set up a large first innings lead. Then hopefully it will spin later in the test for Swann.Comment

Anderson can bowl like a demon when he wants to; Broad too. If they can just add the consistency to bowl well in every innings in every match then they could become the most feared opening partnership since the Wasim/Waqar, Ambrose/Walsh, Donald/Pollock, McGrath/Someone else glory days of the 90s.
It looks to be a good Test Match pitch as well. Before play started you had Steve James saying it was a must-bat pitch and then Michael Holding saying he would love to have a bowl on it even at his age. I only saw the first session but it looked to me like a 'you get out what you put in' type of pitch. You can get a double hundred on it or you can take 8 for not many if you really want to.
