Affliction and the UFC to "collaborarte"

Today's earlier report of a deal between Affliction and the Ultimate Fighting Championship has been officially announced.

Affliction, which launched a fight series in 2008 after it was banned as a UFC sponsor, today canceled its latest show, "Affliction: Trilogy," which was scheduled for Aug. 1 in California.

As expected, Affliction will no longer promote MMA shows and instead will return to the UFC octagon as an officially approved sponsor.

"We are excited about the return of Affliction to the UFC and look forward to seeing our fighters once again walk into the octagon wearing the Affliction brands," UFC president Dana White stated. "Affliction is an innovator of mixing fashion with this sport, and we are looking forward to working together to promote the sport."

White often criticized Affliction once it launched its fight promotion, which hosted two very prolific (but hardly lucrative) shows to date. With Fedor Emelianenko in both shows' headline fights, the cards drew big names and proven stars but came with hefty disclosed fighter payrolls of nearly $3.5 million each. White often referred to Affliction vice president Tom Atencio as the "T-shirt guy" and criticized company officials for saying Affliction would go head-to-head with the UFC.

    Fences have apparently been mended.

"Our brand is synonymous with the 'Live Fast' approach to life, and UFC is the perfect venue for us to market our brand," Affliction co-founder Eric Foss stated. "We have come to an agreement with the UFC, which we feel will be the best for the sport and will help the UFC continue delivering the highest caliber of fights."

When asked whether the UFC would acquire fighter contracts from Affliction as part of the deal, White was noncommittal during a radio appearance on ESPN1100 today. However, he said the organization has a major press conference tentatively planned for July 31 in which the UFC will make a "laundry list" of major announcement.

Good. They can get back to doing what they know how to do selling over priced guido douchebag uniforms.

The talent will likely be split mostly between UFC and Strikeforce the only 2 orgs in the states who know what theyre doing.

Only one that might hurt from it is Tapout. Personally Id rather buy 2 tapout shirts for the price of one affliction.

I'd love to see the fighters join ufc, but not with their contracts, it would cost ufc too much, and would start shit with fighters already in the ufc who would want raises

I dont think the UFC would want any of these contracts because they are all non-exclusive and this seems to just be a sponsership deal only, probably just a bunch of free agents now

They should have went on with the show, paid the fighters and than closed up shop, this was a pretty shady way to go about it, bunch of guys have trained for months and months and now have nothing to show for it

blah, I hope Strikeofrce can use some of these guys for the 15th, probably at a discounted rate I would assume, you know these guys want to make some of this money back
Now, if the cable companys put the kibosh on the show there is nothing affliction could have done, they wouldnt be able to pay the fighters anyway, but Vitor or anyone would have done about the same as Barnett IMO, so they should have went ahead with the PPV, but its very shady because supposedly Afflcition has been trying to do this for a while now, so looks like they used Barnett as the scapegoat

          Pretty crappy all around

Also, the UFC wont pick up any of the contracts the way they are, to expensive and non-exclusive, so thats 2 things the UFC doesnt do

I could never talk myself into spending $60 on a t-shirt.

Im happy with the $10 MMA Elite ones from Wal-Mart

                    Ive considered it twice.
First time I went out to get one and got the sticker shock.

Second time W2B posted some link on MM once with reduced price site. Saw two I really liked. Asked a female friend over aim which I should get..she says "...I dunno do you spike your hair ?".....I lol'd in confusion.
Went to bar the next night and saw 6 affliction shirts. Every one of them had either spiked hair or an orange tan:devil:. Thus ended my affliction desire.:flush:

Atencio said Affliction would try and compensate guys with shirt deals to make up the difference. Not a full paycheque, but better than nothing

Their shirts are garbage. I don't see the appeal at all.
