I believe the replay of UFC 94 that they showed to counter program Frank vs Diaz did really well, Frank and Nick still did close to 400k which was still a good number for Showtime

I dont think this takes to much away from the Strikeforce fight, the people who were going to watch it are still going to watch it, its on Showtime, you have to have it or order it, a replay wont stop people from watching it IMO

But I fully expect the UFC to pull out the big guns when Strikeforce is on CBS again, it will be a free show on spike and that will make a dent in Strikeforces numbers

If the UFC goes that route, it will be a start of a blood bath

Stories and personalities sell fights, fight quality means very little.

Coleman/Shogun was loaded wih drama, Coleman showed a ton of heart and by the end of the fight had everyone pulling for him to somehow pull off surviving, and even winning. His post match promo was great, too, coming off as the Rocky type underdog veteran.

If fans are emotionally invested in a fight, the quality of the fight means nothing. Just look at Randy/Sylvia. Watch that shit on mute and you would fall asleep. But because of the drama, and the story, its remembered as a great fight and classic moment. If that fight was a prelim, they'd have been boo'd out of the building.

They ran out of time live to show Coleman/Bonnar at 100, but they are fixing that on Staurday. Coleman is a great story right now.

IMO Coleman vs Kimbo would be huge. Maybe not on the scale of a great fight, but it would draw big numbers. Or use it to counter program Strikeforce card with Fedor on it.

That would explain why there's all this buzz about Jon Jones sick skills (you remember him, the dude who submitted Jake O' Brien with a motherfucking D'arce choke on the undercard of 100) meanwhile no one has said two shits about Coleman laying on Bonnar (and his shitty, shitty performance)for three rounds.

This isn't pro wrestling. Get over it!
You know I dont like Pro Wrestling, but W2B is right for the most part

Kimbo vs Ken would do at minium twice as many PPV buys than Machida vs Shogun if it was in the UFC

Its not Pro Wrestling, its just the fight game and what sells fights

You are definitely an optimist as it relates to Mark Coleman..

Unfortunately I dont think everyone sees it that way brother..

Ken has a famous name, but fans are getting more and more educated by the day. I'd be willing to bet most people are aware that Ken is old and washed up. Not to mention, I know we're talking 'in theory,' but how the fuck would the UFC hype a fight with Ken Shamrock in it? What highlights are they going to show? Ones from almost a decade ago? You don't think people are going to watch those and think "man those clips are old as fuck, that doesn't even look like the same guy."

Also, you're proposing they hype Mark Coleman. The biggest reason why people have trouble adopting this sport is because of the ground game; they perceive it as two dudes just laying on each other. Now, what does Mark Coleman specialize in? Fucking laying on dudes without doing anything!

Let me break this down. You two are suggesting the UFC use Mark Coleman, who is only good at what casual fans don't want to see, to get casual fans more interested in the sport? Well, that's brilliant guys! :2thumbs:
He knocked crackheads out in the streets & tomato cans in the cage. But nonetheless you're right.

Im not denying that Kimbo vs Coleman would do huge numbers.. but it'd be Coleman riding off Kimbo's name there.. a name that could be filled by a shit ton of other fighters and still be huge cause of Kimbo's name. It may be sad, but it be the truth.
