You just described one line...But you can almost guarantee that Sharp, Versteeg, Big Buff, Ladd, Barker, Madden etc...a handful of guys like that will be gone. Not to mention they have to come up with money for Hjalmersson and Niemi.

I don't know, I think I would be happy with pieces of those 6 players to begin with and build around them. New players will come and they may be that extra step into the next round or the cup.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

      "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

The problem is...those 6 pieces take up a huge amount of the cap...add in Huets brutal contract and what we have is a cluster fuck in the making. Next year will have a good amount of quality guys, but if the Hawks are going to win it this is the year. Im almost certain you will see one of the forwards moved in the next months..not sure which one but its either Sharp, Versteeg, Ladd or Big Buff.

Killgod laughed at me, but there has been alot of talk about the Hawks packaging a few of those guys to land Ilya Kovalchuk for the stretch run.

Don't know why they would jack their team to shit to get Kovy. Stupid idea. You already fucked yourself with the Hossa signing. That should have been the first thought of the Hawks GM's that "if we sign hossa to this huge contract, we may fuck ourselves later on". Oh look what has happened. Living in the bottom of the west was great for draft picks but when you need to resign all the young guys, you get fucked.

Malkin, Crosby, Gonchar, Staal, Fleury ... Ovechkin, Semin, Backstrom, Green ... you only need a handful of the seriously top end guys to compete every year.

                        QFT

Look at the penguins and you see how it can be done. Not pulling a homer, because I would say even the red wings had the same and you'll find mos champs have the same thing in common. A few top stars and then depth depth depth.

I'll look at the pens since they are easy. Start with the 3rd line. You got Staal who is a stud, backed up with Kennedy and Cooke/Talbot. The last three are by no means top 6 players, but they have amazing chemistry that they could be a top 6 line. Wait, what does the hawks want to do? Break up the team chemistry for superstar player?

Then you got the malkin line and crosby line with some formation of Dupis, Guerin, Kunitz, Fedotenko, and a few other cast members. Again, a lot of these guys are third liners on most teams, save maybe Guerin. Again chemistry is why they work. It was the big thing in Pittsburgh to find someone Crosby could play with and be a machine. They tried Hossa and he bailed, so another superstar was not the answer. Instead they have more depth players.

Then on the back end, Gonchar leads the group followed I would say by Letang and Orpik. But then you still got quality dmen in McKee and Gololski (lol). Throw Fluery in net who is a top goalie in the NHL (when he isn't hurt) and there you go.

It is why teams like the Hawks are good now, because they have a lot of young depth. The issue is, you need to keep that depth. Same with the Kings, they are turning into it, and the Leafs HOPE to turn into that. Because honestly, superstars hardly ever win championships on their own. In terms of Washington, that is what happened last season. Ovey couldn't do it all himself and finally the tank ran empty.

Hawks honestly IMO screwed themself on the Hossa signing. Hossa hasn't won a cup yet and has choked on how may teams now in the finals? Why would you not spend that money on solid depth guys.

Canucks and Kings will look a hell of alot better in the next few years.

In the east I honestly think the Islanders and the Panthers are going to be strong after a few years.

                                Leafs offseason training!
