If it wasn't for an 8 AM today, I would have been watching that game as well.

Forsberg, Lidstrom, & Alfredsson aren't exactly in the prime of their careers. The Swedes don't have nearly the depth of the Canadian team.

I thought Canada played well against the US, they just were somewhat unlucky that more of their shots didn't go in, and Brodeur had two aggressively bad misplays that led to two US goals. Brodeur looked somewhat shaky. For large portions of the game, the US was caught in Team Canada's jetwash. I thought the Canadians skated circles around the US.
I've forgotten more about hockey than you'll ever know. Hell, I watched the 1972 Summit Series (go ahead, Wikipedia it).

While Forsberg, Lidstrom and Alfredsson are no longer in their prime, all three remain elite players ... and incredibly dangerous in a short tourney like this.

The Swedes also have the Sedin sisters, who are tearing up the NHL right now.

Typcial Dave posting. You trumpet your own alleged intellectual superiority, and respond to nothing in my posting.

The question isn't "does Sweden suck", it is "on paper, is Sweden as good as Canada".

I say that aren't, because they are relying on major contributions from Forsberg, Lidstrom, & Alfredsson...none of whom are in their prime. Canada has better depth and guys like Heatley, Crosby, Thornton, Toews, Nash, etc. are at the peak of their abilities.

Sweden is NOT as good as Canada on paper. I'd like to hear why you think they are.

Looking at the hockey bracket, it appears that the Czechs did themselves a favor by losing to Russia. They don't have a bye (they have to play Latvia), but they can avoid Canada, Russia, and Sweden until the Final.

No, they just have to play Finland. That will be a good game.

no link but read somewhere 8.22 million watched in the us MSNBC second higest viewer total second only to election night 2008, 10.6 million canadians watched it.

depth or not the canadians can not be happy having to go through russia and most likely sweeden to play for the gold. while forsberg is a shadow of his former self lidstrom is still solid and arguably the smartest defensemen in all of hockey. zetterberg and lidstrom were able to control crosby in the stanley cup finals last year without datsyuk which since he is russian they will have to do it again, while crosby is without malkin. which is all just for shits and giggles as they have to get past russia first.

                          No you didn't...

If you think James Naismith... Canadian born.. American citizen, who was in Springfield, Missouri (USA...) was the first then you are mistaken. He made the rules for today's games. But civilizations like the Mayans were playing way before then.

and lol at counting a Canadian born, US citizen as "we" when referring to canadians.

lol the mayans did not play basketball. I've stood at chitchen itza, that's no basketball court. they used a much smaller, rubber ball and couldn't use their hands.

it was more like soccer with a raised net.

the credit of the invention of basketball today goes to Naismith, who was born in Canada, grew up in Canada, went to Univeristy in Canada and then went to the US. 5 years after arrival there was about when he invented it.

Sorry but the dude was Canadian whether you like it or not.

Is that really helping your cause though?

Is Canada even any good at basketball? I know they obviously aren't on our level.

I don't care if we are good at it or not, I was never a part of that argument. Just correcting those wacky ass statements.
