Fedor Will Fight Overeem Only After He Passes Drug Test

Fedor Won't Fight Overeem Unless He Tests Clean - Head Kick Legend

Rumors about a possible Fedor Emelianenko v. Alistair Overeem fight in 2010 seem to have been squashed earlier today when M-1 announced that Fedor would face Fabricio Werdum in May. However, Overeem still looms large over Fedor, both as one of the toughest non-UFC HWs Fedor has not yet defeated, and as (theoretically) the champion of Strikeforce. Dutch site Mixfight.nl decided to get in touch with Fedor's management regarding a fight with Overeem; M-1's Apy Echteld said that they were interested in fighting Overeem, however they would not fight unless Overeem was drug tested leading up to the fight. In response, Martijn de Jong from Overeem's team expressed his belief that Fedor deserves a shot at this Strikeforce title, and that they look forward to a potential fight.

While there is a strong possibility of Fedor v. Overeem later in the year, this drug testing could indeed throw a Pacquaio/Mayweather-style monkeywrench into the fight. We'll have to see how that plays out.

In the meantime, Overeem is rumored for the K-1 Yokohama event, and now Dutch sites are reporting that he may be facing Brett Rogers on an upcoming Strikeforce event. Again, we'll have to wait and see, but if we do get Fedor v. Werdum and Overeem v. Rogers this spring with the two winners meeting later in 2010, it certainly would be a tremendous year for Strikeforce's previously spotty heavyweight division.

I think it will happen, I think they mostly want Overeem to pass a test in the states again before fighting Fedor, so if Overeem ends up fighing Rogers and passes his test, there is no reason for him to not fight Fedor

It seems like the plan has always been to fight Overeem in his 3rd fight on PPV, so Overeem needs to beat a guy like Brett and Fedor beats Werdum than they have a PPV fight later in the year

fedor had no problem fighting roided up freaks of nature for years in pride, why is it now that him and those crazy russians decide they need to play commissioner and set the rules.

He doesnt want to lose to a roided up freak is the pretty obvious answer.

Lets see if Fedor catches the same heat Floyd did, which I doubt. For years neither fighter has went after top competition, but somehow Fedor always gets a pass while Floyd is seen as a coward.

totally different structure of the sports, PBF has the ability to fight anyone, Fedor doesnt with the way the UFC is set up

interesting point someone made on another forum

Fedor already got screwed by Barnett and lost out on a fight purse and they are in the process of sueing Affliction for it

probably doesnt want to get screwed again with a guy who everyone suspects is juicing

                      What?

                      Gary Goodridge
                      Heath Herring
                      Semmy Schilt
                      Big Nog
                      Kevin Randleman
                      Mark Coleman
                      Iron Head

These guys werent top competition at the time? You have to consider Pride and Japan in general enjoy the freak show, so matches like Zulu and Hong Man have to be expected in the mix. Hes now been unable to fight top level talent in the UFC because well.. hes not in the UFC. But he still fought guys like Sylvia and Arlovski in the last couple years, despite my feelings on Sylvia, these guys were also regarded as "top level talent" at the time they fought Fedor. I dont really see why Fedor should take the flack PBF does in this regard.

Not until he contract with Strikeforce is over.

LOLWUT. Fedor is currently 3-0 against Top 10 heavyweights and faces another in Werdum in May. That is a better two-year resume than any other HW on the planet right now.

Slyvia = Top 3 HW and former UFC champion prior to fighting Fedor.
Arlovski = Top 5 HW prior to fighting Fedor.
Rogers = Top 10 HW prior to fighting Fedor.
Werdum = Top 10 HW prior to fighting Fedor.
