Huerta to Sign with Bellator, compete in the LW Tourney

    Alvarez v Huerta?

According to MMAJunkie, Roger Huerta (20-3-1) will be participating in Bellator's Season two Lightweight Tournament:

Sources close to the situation confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the popular lightweight received his formal release from the UFC this week, which opened the door to finalize a deal with the upstart promotion.

Bellator has called a video press conference for Monday at 3 p.m. ET that will stream live at Bellator.com.

Huerta will part of the 8-man tourney, which already includes talented prospects, Toby Imada (23-13), Jorge Masvidal (19-5), Chad Hinton (6-0), Mike Ricci (5-0), Ferrid Kheder (16-5), Janne Tulirinta (12-3), and Carey Vanier (7-2). Should he come out victorious, Roger will then earn a shot at Season 1 winner, and current Bellator lightweight champ, Eddie Alvarez.

Goog signing, I thought Strikeforce was going to pick him up to fight Josh or KJ

Bellator pays good money if you can win the tournaments though, they have a prety good business model, I believe they get good money from the casion's they fight at, forgot the details, but they make some good moves and can pay fighters pretty well

IMO Bellator is doing a much better job than Strikeforce. They know how to market their fighters, use the MMA media in an advantageous way, and keep me interested in all their fights.

I'd be interested to know if SF even went after Huerta

better? I would say different, Strikeforce has the better overall fighters, more exposure in the mainstream, etc...but Bellator is doing a great job, I love tourneys and it makes the sport more credible

I wish Strikeforce would use a tourney format more, instead of just 'match making' which is fine, it works well for the UFC because they have stars, hype, etc...but tourneys can create new stars just with fights, take 8 or 16 guys and let them battle

Huerta won't make it past Masvidal.

I always thought Strikeforce should have a regular show on Showtime using some sort of tourny format. I'm not talking about copying TUF with dudes living in a house, but book 8 or 16 up-and-comers/young fighters in a tournament and follow them around their day to day lives, their camps to promote their fights.

By the end of the season, you're bound to have at least 2 new stars.

from reading some stuff it looks like they are going to do a tourney with the 135 and 145 womens division and use the Challenger shows as the vehicle

I like that idea, I thought they would do something like also with Showtime, would be really good

Great signing by Bellator. Makes an interesting tournament a bit more interesting.
