Jacare–Kennedy likely for Strikeforce MW Title

Two years ago, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza faced Gegard Mousasi at Dream’s middleweight tournament final, but couldn’t take the title back to Brazil. At August 21, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt will have the opportunity to win Strikeforce middleweight belt against Tim Kennedy. Jacaré didn’t confirmed to TATAME that the bout will be for the middleweight championship, but sources close to the fighter informed TATAME that it’ll be a five rounds fight for the 185lbs title. On the same night, Rafael “Feijão” Cavalcante faces King Mo Lawal for the light heavyweight title.

    Mayhem is suspended isn't he?

And having Le as a serious contender or champion would mean he would have to take MMA seriously full-time. I'm pretty sure he's comfy in his current situation.

A Mayhem rematch would've been ideal.. but I think Strikeforce is trying to continue to build Jacare up. I like Kennedy, but he gonna get grapple raped.

not sure, I know Hendo is out, he is going back to 205 which is the right move IMO, he is needed there more, also Cung doesnt want to do it which isnt surprising

This might be a first round match up, but thats 2 of there best so it would not be ideal

Is this the show in Houston? I was planning on going, but these two fights do nothing for me.

i dont even really wanna see a tourney. sounds cool in theory but they usually dont work out too well, especially with 8 people. for sure someones getting hurt, its gonna take a long time to finish, etc. this isnt japan where they could finish the last two rounds in one night like it should be, they would have to go Yamma style with shortened rounds to do it.

                So far I think its

                King Mo vs Feijao
                Kennedy vs Jacare
                KJ Noons vs Gurgel

Can't wait to see Jacare fight again, his last fight was pretty entertaining.

I'm a big Jacare fan, guy is a stud, but I have not been impressed by his cardio in his last fight and some of his previous fights, if he doesnt sub Kennedy in the first or second he might get pounded out later in the fight

Also, a lot of people don't know much about Kennedy, he isnt Jacare level grappling, but he is a really good grappler

Jacare couldnt sub Mayhem or Joey Villasenor, Kennedy probably not as slick as Mayhem who is tough as hell to sub, but he is way better than Joey

                        Good fight

                          confirmed

Five-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will lock horns with Tim Kennedy for the vacant Strikeforce middleweight crown at Strikeforce “Houston” on Aug. 21

Five-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will lock horns with Tim Kennedy for the vacant Strikeforce middleweight crown at Strikeforce “Houston” on Aug. 21 at the Toyota Center in Houston. The promotion on Friday made the matchup official, putting to bed talk of a middleweight tournament.

Jacare will ride a two-fight winning streak into the match. One of the sport’s most decorated ground fighters, the 30-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt has secured 10 of his 12 career wins by submission. Victories against Jason “Mayhem” Miller and 2000 Olympic silver medalist Matt Lindland highlight his resume. A finalist in the 2008 Dream middleweight grand prix, Souza has lost only once -- to former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi -- in the past seven years.

A United States Army Special Forces sniper, Kennedy has rattled off four consecutive victories. Based in Fort Bragg, N.C., the 30-year-old submitted Trevor Prangley with a first-round rear-naked choke at Strikeforce “Los Angeles” in June. Kennedy owns other notable wins against UFC veteran Dante Rivera, former International Fight League middleweight champion Ryan McGivern and one-time Bodog Fight welterweight titleholder Nick Thompson. He has never been submitted.

A light heavyweight title bout between unbeaten champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante will headline Strikeforce “Houston,” which will air live on Showtime. In addition, one-time EliteXC lightweight titleholder K.J. Noons will square off Jorge Gurgel, and former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Bobby Lashley will return to the cage for the first time since January. No opponent for Lashley has been named.
Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal - Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante (LHW Title Fight)
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza - Tim Kennedy (MW Title Fight)
                          KJ Noons - Jorge Gurgel
                          Bobby Lashley - TBA

so i guess the tourney isnt happening ...

I think the tourney might still be on to make a number 1 contender, might be just 4 man though

Cung doesnt want to do it and Hendo is going back to 205

                              Wonder who Lashley will get
