Josh Thomson on Cain/Lesnar, Lashley a better wrestler than Brock

    from bloodyelbow

"Cain is wrestling every day with this year's NCAA Div 1 national champ from MO who is about 280lbs, and let me tell you that Cain coming off a knee surgery 4 weeks ago is getting takedowns just fine as well as not losing any. Cain is a better wrestler/striker/MMA fighter than Brock, but Brock is bigger with a huge punch. That is the only chance I give Brock - a punchers chance because I don’t see him holding Cain down if he can get the takedown."

"Bobby Lashley couldn’t and can't take Cain down and he is leaps and bounds a better wrestler than Brock as well as just as big so don’t count Cain out in the wrestling just yet."

I don't see how he can say Lashley is a better wrestler than Brock, when Brock was more accomplished.

Lashley is also older than Brock, and further removed from competition wrestling.

Brock more accomplished in college, not on the international level

Just from reading up on this stuff and gathering some info, some points to consider

Brock stopped wrestling in 2000, didnt wrestle past college

Lashley got hurt in 2003 when training for the olympics, he was ranked 4th in the nation at one point post College

Brock is a more of a natural HW though, Lashley wrestled pretty light in College, than at 210 range on the international level

Also, College wrestling is folkstyle, internationally it is freestyle, different rules, not all College champs do well with the transition, its a different style

King Mo was only a Division II champ, but he was one of the highest rankings wrestlers in the US after College

Cain's record against Cole Konrad in College (a Brock training partner) is like 1-2, but all very close matches, Konrad has a different style than Brock though

Who is the better wrestler between Lashley and Brock? Who knows, I havent been super impressed with either of there wrestling in MMA, Brock has done more in MMA, but his wrestling hasnt been dominate against Randy or Carwin

I feel Lesnar's college wrestling credentials get overrated a bit. Impressive, no doubt. A National Championship is big. But its not like he was unbeatable.

King Mo weighs in from his twitter

              On Lashley and Brocks wrestling

'' he (Lashley) is a better wrestler because he competed at a higher wrestling level than Brock. Wrestling don't end at college.''

'' btw....4x all American don't mean a thing. Folkstyle is only done in the US...u can think angle is the best. I don't care.''

'' melvin Douglas, Chris Campbell, Kevin Jackson, les gutches, lee Kemp, kenny Monday, mark Coleman were better.''

'' konrad is a betta wrestler than Brock with bigger wins and accomplishments.''

Why would he take a shot at Kurt Angle? Unless any of these guys won an Olympic gold medal, with a broken neck, at heavyweight while outweighed by everyone they faced because they were to proud to drop a weight class, then they can't say a word.

I don't know why the Angle shot, seems like someone was arguing with him and calling Angle the greatest ever or soemthing like that, Mo has very strong opinions

Fwiw, about 10 years ago, when Brock was fresh out of college, Angle supposedly mopped the floor with him in a "friendly" backstage wrestling match. Kurt was far removed from competition at that point, and had broken his neck twice.

I heard that story and believe it easily, Angle was a monster and his quickness is amazing from some of the fottage I have seen

I also have read that Brock's wrestling technique wasnt 'great', he was more of a power, strength, explosive type of wrestler which is what it looks like to me anyway, competing past college becomes more about technique because the level is so high and everyone is really good

If I was comparing Lashley and Brock from what I read and seen, I would have to say Lashley was/is a better wrestler based on technique because he competed at a lighter weight and past college, but Brock would probably be the better HW wrestler because always wrestled at that weight against strong strong guys, tougher to come up in weight like Lashley has and keep some of his advantages
