Updated, Bobby Lashley is fighting Chad Griggs

Bobby Lashley vs. Chad Griggs set for "Strikeforce: Houston" in August
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Jul 16, 2010 at 11:10 am ET
Undefeated Strikeforce heavyweight Bobby Lashley (5-0 MMA, 1-0 SF) will meet Arizona-based fighter Chad Griggs (8-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) at "Strikeforce: Houston."

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the matchup from sources close to one of the fighters, and Strikeforce officials subsequently confirmed the main-card contest.

Featuring a light heavyweight title fight between current champion Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal and Rafael "Fejao" Cavalcante, the Showtime-broadcast "Strikeforce: Houston" event takes place Aug. 21 at the Toyota Center in Houston.

A former professional wrestler, Lashley debuted for the promotion in January with a TKO win over Wes Sims. He had been linked to a possible June contest, but those plans deteriorated, and the American Top Team fighter will now wait until August to return.

Lashley has earned four stoppage wins in the first five bouts of his mixed martial arts career.

Meanwhile, Griggs fights for the first time since April 2009 and just the second time since November 2007. A two-time veteran of the now-defunct International Fight League, "The Grave Digger" has earned stoppage wins in all eight of his career victories, and six of those wins came in the first round.

Griggs lone career loss came in an April 2007 bout with Shane Ott.

Rob what is your take on King Mo? Is he as good as they are hyping him up to be? When I saw him in the Mousasi fight, I thought he looked a little gassed.

He will be one of the best in the sport down the road, he isnt there yet though, has a lot to work on still

You have to remember, when he beat Mousasi he only has been training for about a year and a half, he was fresh off the wrestling mats

He is easilly the best wrestler at 205, it isnt even close, he has a chin and can hit hard, plus I like that he is a student of the game

He gassed early, but there is gassing and than there gassed, Shane Carwin gassed, King Mo was gassing in the 2nd and still went to win a 5 round fight, he was still landing big time doubles in the 4th and 5th, that showed me something, plus Mousasi is no push over

God damn Strikeforce, I know its Showtime's doing, but looks like both Cormier and Galvao will be on the prelims

                    PRELIMS
                    DANIEL CORMIER VS JASON RILEY
                    ANDRE GALVAO VS NATE MOORE
                    VINICIUS MAGALHAES VS ROCKY LONG
                    ADAM SCHINDLER VS KIER GOOCH
                    JOSE SANTIBANEZ VS REYNALDO TRUJILLO
                    CHAD ROBICHAUX VS HUMBERTO DELEON
                    CHAD COOK VS ARTENEUS YOUNG
