    Best in the Game: Goaltenders

How about Johnathan Quick? MA Fleury? Niklas Backstrom?

I mean. Anderson/Halak basically had a "breakout year" which means nothing if it cannot be duplicated, so the jury is still out on them. Many goalies over time have had one great year then disappear.

I don't see how you can leave off Fleury at all.

Backstrom had a off year this year, but was coming off 3 very stellar seasons which made him a top goalie in the fantasy world for that time.

Halak, Hiller and probably Rinne are a better pick for this list than Anderson.

Rinne was a fantasy beast last year. Especially in the last month and a half of the season.

      No particular order...

      1) Ryan Miller
      2) Roberto Luongo
      3) Martin Brodeur
      4) Ilya Bryzgalov
      5) Henrik Lundqvist
      6) Cam Ward
      7) Marc-Andre Fleury
      8) Nicklas Backstrom
      9) Miika Kiprusoff
      10) Tuuka Rask/Jonas Hiller/Jaroslav Halak/Pekka Rinne (younger. up-and-coming goalies, the ones who will more than likely be among the elite in a few years)

I didn't put any one year wonders on my list because they could end up being one of the worst goalies next year. Example, Mason from two years ago compared to last year.

You must be high or something. Quick Comparison:

                  Miller 69GP 41Wins 2.22GAA .929 SV% 4SOs
                  Ilya 69GP 42Wins 2.29GAA .920 SV% 8SOs

                      Also to add onto it.

He's played on some really stinky teams yet has never had a SV% below .900 GAA hasn't been above 3.0 and for the most part is around or lower then 2.5 (he had a couple years above that)

I personally wouldn't rate him above lundqvist.

Pretty simply why Anderson < Hiller IMO.

The numbers are compareable. Hiller has played more than one season, Hiller also won a playoff series. Anderson played hot for half a season and then declined from January through April till it was over.

anyways, is this supposed to be the best goalies in the game? or the best goalies from JUST LAST YEAR?

It wasn't long ago that Carey Price stole the show in Montreal, or Andrew Raycroft won the calder, etc.

One solid season doesn't make you a top goalie.

the main difference to me, is that Anderson has been around since 02, sucked through 06 with Chicago, went to florida and then got better to the point where he landed the colorado job.

Anderson had a losing record from Feb 1st onward. So sure Anderson played 71 games this year but it was to his detriment as he's not ready for that.

Hiller on the other hand, turned pro in Switzerland posting 3 solid years, then in Anaheim, 3 more solid years. Hiller's worst statistical season as a pro goalie is the one he just had, with a 2.78GAA and .918 SV%. Not too bad..

Hiller has played 6 pro hockey seasons with 40-60GP, where Anderson has played 1 pro hockey season with more than 31GP.

I mean, when Anderson can show he's got legs to play like a #1 over a whole season and Hiller can show he can play poor for a long stretch, I'd consider Anderson to be the better tender, but frankly, he's not.

Hiller has the consistency that Anderson has yet to find.
