    The Muay Thai/Kickboxing Thread

Let's start this thread off right. Here is an absolute slobberknocker from Shootboxing event back in April featuring Bovy Sor Udomson (one of my absolute favorites) and Takaaki Umeno. What a crazy ass fight.

Dzhbar Askerov (from The Contender) vs. Armen Petrosyan (Giorgio Petrosyan's younger brother) from back in March.

Surprised how aggressive Arem is compared to his brother. Dzhbar is as predictable as ever.

Too bad he's a POS hothead because he's immensely talented and K-1 has been foaming at the mouth for him to get his shit together so they can make him the face of the organization.

He's still not fucking with Remy, though.

K-1 seems to have optimistic about their number of qualifying GPs, and they just canceled their K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16 Qualifying GP. Bummer. I wonder who they are going to give the remaining openings to? Hopefully not Aerts.

About the K-1 WGP thing, Tanikawa said that they’re having a difficult time with the last preliminary event of this years WGP (the one that Ghita won last year, the last one before the FINAL16).

The upset of the year so far. Budding star Hinata beat 2008 K-1 MAX finalist Artur Kyshenko back in RISE 31 on July 31st. Here's the footage.

              [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4hrBT3TEVA[/ame]

Hinata looked very strong and fought smart, staying away from Artur's power and pounding him with kicks.

Artur looked slow. Weight cutting seems to be getting to him. Also, he played into Hinata's hands and made it a kicking-focused fight. Kyshenko need to close the gap and used his hands more.

I mark out for those Muay Thai trips Kyshenko uses every time. That one in the third was sweet.

I hate the clinch rules so much.

                Damn, I like Kyshenko.

PVR'd a K1 event off HDNet last night, thinking it was new. Looks like it was the 70KG tourny from March. FTL...

On July 31st, Hinata pulled off an upset in the world of Kickboxing when he KO’d K-1 World MAX 2008 2nd place Artur Kyshenko at a RISE event in Japan.

On September 18th at a Shoot Boxing event, Hinata will look at pulling off upset #2 of 2010 when he takes on 2-time K-1 World MAX champion and 3-time S-cup champion Andy Souwer at Shoot Boxing -ISHIN- 4 in Korakuen Hall, Japan.

This fight is kind of a pre S-cup 2010 fight for Souwer and that of course adds pressure to win.

Woot! Hinata vs. Souwer. I hope the footage drops quickly after the event.

K-1 MAX doesn't like it's going to happen anytime soon, which is sad because I look forward to that tournament the most.

The future of K-1 MAX in 2010 is as foggy as ever, though, as Kogan knew of no dates for the K-1 MAX tournaments for the rest of the year. Logistically, this would all have to happen very soon as last year the Final 16 was April, Final 8 was July and the Finals were October. With all of the fighters tied up already, I have very little hope of this going off as planned.

                          Ben Edwards vs. Ubereem announced.

Ben Edwards is fighting Alistair Overeem in the K1 top 16 in Korea on Oct 2nd. This is a dream come true, I have nothing to lose. I can't wait.

Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Artem Levin @ Sportaccord Combat Games 2010. These two met in 2008 and it was a relatively one-sided affair.

                            [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO_8T1qiQrs[/ame]

Yod didn't adjust to the padding or his gameplan to the different rules and it cost him.

Levin is a prick for teeping him in the face near the end of the match. Stay classy, buddy.

Also, the K-1 situation gets clear. A double show in Korea.
The K-1 World MAX Final 16 has been broiled in rumors lately, with fighters reporting signing on for fights on Korea on October 3rd with the K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16 being on October 2nd. Most just wrote this off as them getting the dates wrong, or due to international time changes, giving a different date. Well, it turns out that K-1 has booked the Olympic Gymnasium in Seoul, Korea for two nights in a row.

The K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16 will go down on October 2. The K-1 World MAX Final 16 will happen on October 3. Other than announcing the K-1 MAX show, the other "announcement" was that Giorgio Petrosyan will indeed participate in the K-1 World MAX Final 16.

K-1 MAX has thankfully found a home for this year, now all we have to do is wait for the fights to be announced.
