    Silva - Sonnen II

Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times reported on twitter that UFC is going to do an Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rematch, as opposed to having Sonnen take a fight first with the winner getting the next title shot.

Pugmire reported the match would either take place on a special New Year's Eve PPV show, or on a show in February, depending upon how quickly Silva's cracked ribs recover.

Dana White confirmed that information tonight.

anyone else really not care to see this re-match so quickly? id rather see belfort - silva

edit - i agree with larry. silva fought with a legit broken rib last time, fully healed its gonna be a way different fight.

I'm the other way. I have little interest in seeing Belfort/Silva now. Sonnen is never going to be hotter after that performance so let's get a rematch. The build will make the fight one of the biggest of the year.

Even if Silva is healthy, Sonnen could give him fits again. The question will be if Sonnen improves his sub defense after all this time.

                  lazy match making

Penn vs Edgar immediate rematch, now Silva vs Chael immediate rematch

Fight will be the same, Silva can stop takedowns and Chael can't finish him, decision win by Chael or sub or KO by Silva

Chael's sub defense is what it is, not great, but he got subbed because Silva rocked him with a right I believe, it wasnt just lack of sub defense, he was tiring and dazed

They have to do it again, it did a monster number, the first fight was great, and people see Sonnen as a real threat now in addition to a loud mouth. It'll do 20% more this time, you have to strike while the iron is hot. Something like Silva/Belfort does a fraction of the buys.

Silva Sonnen 2 will always be a valuable rematch to have, so it doesn't need to be done now. Right now Silva is extremely popular, seen by most as the best fighter, and more importantly he's now viewed as being vulnerable. Not everyone wants to pay money to see the best fighter demolish someone within a round or two. However, everyone does want to see the best fighter when they feel there's a legit possibility that he may lose.

So, why not ride that wave and make 2 big fights instead of one? Carry this momentum into Vitor vs Silva and then comeback to Sonnen which will still be just as big. After that let him move up to 205.

Because Belfort/Silva is a semi main event. Or a weak drawing main.

I see what you are saying, but I don't think they feel Silva/Belfort will draw shit.

That's my point if they ride this wave now, feed off of the hype from the last event, then that will automatically make vitor/anderson a big draw. If they wait, then it probably will be a semi main. So you take the opportunity to make 2 big fights here.

From a fan perspective, I would do exactly what you are saying. From a real sports perspective, that's what they should do. Unfortunately, we all know how this works, and they are going with the sure thing.
