I never said Joe Rogan wasnt good, he just isnt as credible as the fighters, he just isnt, is he more entertaining? Of course, he is an entertainer, thats not my point

Also, Joe's comments on the striking aspect of MMA are not very good, plus his overall knowledge on the wrestling/takedown/clinch game is lacking, he knows his BJJ though

      I'd say that's an obvious fact...but so?

I'd rather have Rogan as my #1 PBP guy instead of Shamrock or Miletich.

And I do like Miletich, despite his dry nature, he's always clear and concise with his thoughts. Shamrock has a great TV personality, but when he Mauro and Gus go to him for input on what's going on, there's something missing. Maybe it's the 3 man booth b/c Shamrock seems like he shouts...as does Mauro (even when there's nothing major happening).

I would rather have Pat, I wont comment on Frank because I'm to close to it, plus I have heard Frank talk enough over the years, lol, Randy also is better than Joe

Just think of it like this, Adam Sandler loves Basketball, he plays a lot, maybe played in high School, I don't know, do I want Hubie Brown or Adam Sandler in the booth?

If Dennis Miller 'practiced' football for years, would I want him in there instead of Ron Jaworski?

They are both more entertaining but its the color spot, not evening at the improv

Like W2B said, Rogan is there for the demo, but I don't care about that, I want a guy that knows more than me (hard to find I know), but I want guys who were in there and can get inside the head and breakdown what is going for the fans and have experience to pull from

I don't think Rogan is necessarily there only for the demo. He knows his shit, obviously he may not know as much about the clinch, muay thai or boxing, but he's no joke either.

I always wonder how other commentators would do if they had the great production values the UFC has. Say what you want, but they do that right.

Again you guys miss my point about Rogan, I think he is good, he is a quality fan of the sport, but if Joe Rogan is the color analyst than its not enough, there should be a 3rd guy in the booth who knows the entire game and has lived it

I don't even like 3 man booths, but Rogan isnt enough IMO for that spot

                agree to disagree

I dont think the broadcast team is lacking because of the fact there isn't a fighter with them.

how could you not? Goldie is terrible and Joe doesnt have the same amount of knowledge as other analyst's

To say Joe Rogan knows more about MMA than Pat, Frank, Bas, Randy, Mir, Pulver, etc...is crazy

just because you find them entertaining doesnt mean they're not lacking

                    Rob,

I think you focus too much on the experience and not enough on the presentation. During a fight, Joe's color delivers the same exact information that the former and current fighters do and in a much better package.

Before and after fight analysis...I'll give you that. I like hearing what these guys have to say, but during a fight...Joe > them, and he gives you every bit of information they do. I don't even think its close, really in regards to who is better all around.

I feel the same way about other professional sports. There are very few former pros and athletes that are worth a dime as color guys. Yet, every both has them, as they give a broadcast "credibility"...I don't think they do, I think they take away from a broadcast with their terrible speaking skills and lack of presentation skills. Before-and-after games/fights...I like and appreciate the analysis...during...leave it to those who can broadcast a better product.

There isnt many points during ANY UFC event where I say to myself "Damn.. I would really rather hear what a real fighter has to say then what Rogan is saying". It does happen.. bcus sometimes Rogan gets on his bias tip.. but other then that, Rogan does a great job of presenting the information he does know, especially to help casual fans understand whats happening in the fight. It would be nice to have a guy like Randy or Florian in the booth now-and-then tho.. especially during big fights. I used to enjoy when Randy would do the main events with Rogan and Goldy..and have no problem with a 3-man booth.

For pre/post fight analysis, strategy break down, discussing styles, matchups, etc I want to hear from an expert (a fighter). That's when guys who train and live MMA every day can provide such valuable insight. For fight commentary it really doesn't matter, we can see what's going on (unlike football) so there's no need to have anyone spoon feed it to me. So the important thing to me is simply sound and professionalism. You gotta have the voice and come off as well spoken, that's my only criteria. Doesn't really matter if it's a fighter or not.

Also, the idea that only fighters can provide valuable insight is a misconception. Look at boxing broadcasts for example, it's not uncommon to have booths with no boxing experience.
