Roger Gracie vs Trevor Prangley slotted for Jan 29th

Trevor Prangley vs. Roger Gracie slotted for Jan. 29 Strikeforce event
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Dec 20, 2010 at 5:00 pm ET

The quickly filling fight card for Strikeforce's Jan. 29 return to Showtime has another addition.

A source close to the organization confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that a light-heavyweight bout between Trevor Prangley (23-6-1 MMA, 4-2-1 SF) and Roger Gracie (3-0 MMA, 1-0 SF) is being finalized for the show.

MMARising.com first reported the light-heavyweight matchup.

The currently untitled event takes place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., which long has been Strikeforce's home base.

Prangley, a South African who's fought at middleweight and light heavyweight for organizations ranging from the UFC to BodogFIGHT, is 6-1-1 since a loss to Jorge Santiago in the finale of Strikeforce's single-night four-man middleweight tourney in 2007. The only loss came to Tim Kennedy, but the 38-year-old Prangley rebounded in September with a split-decision win over Keith Jardine at Shark Fights 13.

Gracie, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt best known for his grappling titles, has fought only occasionally in MMA. However, he recently returned from a two-year layoff and defeated notable Kevin Randleman at "Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery" in May. Now planning to focus more heavily on MMA, the highly touted 29-year-old has an opportunity post a win over a very tough and resilient veteran fighter.

Big step up for Roger, Prangley is a very solid fighter

I think Roger tests the waters standing, he showed he can throw a jab, or at least keep pumping it out there, he has a long reach at LHW

He might have to pull guard at some point, not sure he can get Trevor down straight up
