Strikeforce doing good, extend Melendez and sign Jason High

Two-time STRIKEFORCE World Lightweight Champion (155 pounds), Gilbert "El Nino" Melendez (18-2), has signed a new, multi-year agreement with the San Jose, Calif. based world championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion.

"STRIKEFORCE is my home, they’ve always been like family to me and I’m looking forward to continuing my career with them," said the talented, exciting, 5-foot-9, 27-year-old protégé of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Cesar Gracie and Muay Thai legend Jongsanan Fairtex. "There are a lot of great fights out there for me – lots of challenges. I can’t wait to get back into the cage, do my thing and show the world that I’m still at the top of my game.’’
UFC veteran Jason High has signed a multi-fight contract with Strikeforce.

MMAjunkie.com broke the news earlier today after learning of the signing from High’s manager, Steve Rusich.

While High was unable to earn a victory in his lone UFC contest, losing to Charlie Brenneman at “UFC Fight Night 21″ last March, he has had success lately, earning four straight victories. He last fought at Titan Fighting Championships 16 when he scored a technical submission win against Rudy Bears. With the stoppage time coming in at 0:51 into the first round, the submission marked High’s sixth career finish to come in the opening frame.

No date or opponent has been set for High’s debut with the promotion, but the highly-active fighter will likely fight soon for the promotion.

High is a strong addition to Strikeforce's weak welterweight division.

A shame Gilbert is going to lose that belt later this year.
