Did Strikeforce Ruin Fedor's Career?

Its been all downhill since Fedor got married.
Blame the nagging housewife, not Coker.

I don't think SF is the reason Fedor lost those fights, so no. Besides if he can't beat Silva then what does a fight vs Overeem mean anyway..
& the Anderson vs GSP superfight has been talked about for a couple years now, yet how many times has both guys fought other opponents?Comment

Besides that all of his SF matchups were awesome fights on paper, and the Rogers/Silva fights were a 50/50 pick. All 3 guys were the best competition hes faced in the past 6 years. So how can anyone blame SF? They gave Fedor great opponents and the fans great fights to see, and again if he's not beating Silva then he's not beating Reem either. If that somehow tarnishes his legacy, I don't think it changes anything, but you still can't blame SF for a fighter losing.Comment

It is entirely different which makes it crazy for Bloody Elbow to bring up in comparison, especially considering that it may finally happen 2 years after it was first brought up. Let's also not forget that SF tried to make the Fedor vs Reem fight happen, but Fedor had issues with his contract at that time. SF can't force anyone to fight.Comment

Fedor obviously ain't the same Fedor. He isn't the cyborg anymore and he isn't training like he used to.
M-1 "guiding" his career (or whatever you want to call it), also hurts, but basically, M-1 and Fedor are one in the same...
Just not the same. Strikeforce is just the platform. After giving it a night...I'm not not certain that THIS Fedor does a lot of damage in the UFC. The Super Heavyweight GnP'rs and wrestlers would try and do similar things to Fedor as Bigfoot...maybe have the same success. I dunno.Comment

Cant blame SF its clearly Fedors head and M1 that ruined the whole thing.
His legacy is not tarnished but it will never be what it could have been.
Losing two random names like Bigfoot and Werdum doesnt do anything but ruin the gloss. Losing to Brock/Couture/Overeem would have been completely different stories.
Beating those guys sets him up not only as the dominant fighter up to this point..but beating new age brutes like Brock/Overeem would have sent a message that no matter what size or new breed you are Fedor would have murdered you. Winning this tourney would have cemented the same thing.
As they read off the list of accomplished guys he's thrashed I think it becomes pretty clear it had nothing to do with training methods. Clearly "being undefeated" was the only thing motivating him and even that was waning. Anything he accomplished now was him doing it again. Hes already done all this. It would have meant something else to the casuals and history...but not to him.
SF is to blame for the absolutely clusterfuck of lousy matchmaking in the HW division ,but its still clearly in M1s hands for the horrendous management and there inability to get the premiere fights when EVERYONE wanted to give Fedor a premiere fight 2 years ago.
At the end of the day none of this matters if Fedor still went in to his training and fights with the right mentality. Overconfidence with Werdum was just a sign of looming complacency and losing desire.
I dont see what on earth is going to motivate him to destroy humans again. Fight maybe..but destroy all humans Fedor is no longer there.
Best reason to have a license.

Maybe someone can kidnap Fedors wife and tie her to a chair over the arena.Best reason to have a license.

uh, why not?
You really think Wedrum doesnt have some of the best HW wins in MMA?
You don't think Big Foot can hang with the best HW's? Guy is a monster, put him against the 'UFC HW's and how do you think he does? Look at his size and skill levelLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

Who knows where he's at mentally, but physically it's the same Fedor. What's not the same? Style is still the same, hand speed is there, explosiveness, power, patience, agility, etc all looks the same. The only thing we haven't seen is his brutal GnP, but he's also fighting guys who are a lot bigger than he is now. Other than that it's still the same Fedor, which is part of the problem. He's a great fighter, but even the best of the best need to constantly evolve and adapt, which he hasn't done.Comment

I don't follow MMA as much as I used to but I thought the first round brackets were terribly constructed.
Silva is an absolute monster and skilled and I think he may be legally retarded as well which is totally unfair. Fedor fought with a ton of pride and left it all out there.
I am familiar with Fedor and know what what he has done but never had the chance to watch him fight on live television and in his prime. If anything, I gained more respect for him after the loss to Silva.Comment

Also, fight kind of reminded me of Brock vs. Randy. Silva was just too damn big in the end and a black belt in BJJ, 30-40lb. advantage is just too much to overcome when coupled with retard strength.Comment

Business wise, his biggest fights were eailsy in the UFC. He would have fought Randy, which if you recall was being hyped to death and was highly anticipated. He would have likely won, and faced Brock at some point in the biggest fight in the history of the sport. He likely would have won that fight too, to set up fights with Cain, JDS, whoever else.
We arent talking about who the best opponents for him would have been "skill wise", we are talking about business decisions. We arent talking fights in someone gym in front of 25 people to see who has the best skills.
Again, I don't blame Strikeforce for anything, because they tried to make the biggest fights they could, but M1 rebuffed them at every turn. But Fedor definately left millions of dollars at the table and missed out on some of the biggest fights in history by sticking with M1. Instead, he fought tire guy & Fabricio f'n Werdum. It's not even worthy of debate.Comment
