“Hockey is a tough, physical game, and it always should be. But what happened Friday night on Long Island wasn’t hockey. It was a travesty. It was painful to watch the game I love turn into a sideshow like that.

“The NHL had a chance to send a clear and strong message that those kinds of actions are unacceptable and embarrassing to the sport. It failed.

“We, as a league, must do a better job of protecting the integrity of the game and the safety of our players. We must make it clear that those kinds of actions will not be tolerated and will be met with meaningful disciplinary action.

“If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to re-think whether I want to be a part of it.”

Kinda funny how he talks about how the NHL must make it clear that "those kind of actions should not be tolerated", all the while he has the biggest bitch in the league of Matt Cooke on his team.

Even though I'm a penguins fan and Mario was my hockey hero, if you want to say shit like this then bench Matt Cooke or kick him off the team. You can't defence a guy who has multiple offences. One can be a fluke, twice/three times, not so much.

Kind of sad that Crosby and Lemieux can't say anything about the head shots because of Cooke on the team.

Don Cherry got on his high horse last night and blasted Lemieux. The guy is usually off his rocker but I thought he was on point.

The Lemieux thing starts around 4:25 or so.

My whole point to this is I have problems with Lemieux coming out now and saying all this stuff after his team basically got curb stomped. He's had at least a year (well more then that) to come out about head shots, hits from behind ect and he's done nothing till his team gets the opposite side of the stick.
