I think it speaks volumes that Coker felt it was time to sell before they even completed a round of the HWGP. This was supposed to lead to an eventual PPV, which in theory, would rake in some fat cash. Wouldn't it make sense to get that done and then cash out? Pulling off a succesful PPV would also increase interest in the product, and if it wasn't the UFC, perhaps increase the ProElite bid

SV&SE made the call, Coker isnt the majority owner
Just like if Zuffa sold the UFC, Dana has no choice in the matter
I hope Coker made some good money off of this and can keep being a presence in MMA, maybe he will head up the Japan Zuffa shows and be there guyLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

I'm sure they did. But they would have been seeing the same predictions for revenue etc that Coker did. This is obviously conjecture, but if it made more sense to sell now than after the PPV, there were obviously problems they were seeing with the HWGPComment

whats crazy is how much 'luck' plays into a promotions ability to thrive or die
Good luck for Zuffa after being 45 mill in the hole, Vince alllows TUF to follow RAW, Griffin vs Bonnar is a 'war', WWE fans flock to watch
Bad luck for Strikeforce came one after another, Fedor pulls out of 2nd CBS card, all 3 fights on CBS go to boring decisions plus Hendo losses, Fedor losses, HW GP starts, Fedor losses again, it just never stopped
Zuffa is out of the 'luck' stage, but luck saved them in the the early stages, luck didnt happen for Strikeforce even with the right pieces in placeLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

At what point is "luck" just smart business tho? Zuffa doing all those things were extremely smart business moves, especially putting TUF on after Raw.Comment

Going 45 mill in the hole and almost selling wasnt 'smart business'Liquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

M-1/Fedor screwed themselves in the long run by backing out of the CBS fight, bad luck for Strikeforce, the pieces were in place, the 'boring' fights just made it worseLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

They were betting on Hendo KO'ing Jake and Fedor smashing Werdum which were the likely outcomes, but M-1 pulled out and Hendo got lay and prayed
When you are a new promotion luck is a huge factor, it just is, to deny it is crazy, it's a gamble and they lost pretty much every timeLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

And rob is 100% right when he says Zuffa lucked out with TUF. Can't be denied. It was Vince's call, if he was having a bad day or had listened to Heyman and said no, who knows if UFC even exists today.Comment
