Rangers/Flyers confirmed for Winter Classic this coming season.

NEW YORK (AP)—The New York Times is reporting the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers will play at Citizens Bank Park in the next Winter Classic game.

The annual outdoor game will be played on Jan. 2, because Sunday, Jan. 1 is scheduled to be the final week of the NFL’s regular season.

Citizens Bank Park is the home of the Philadelphia Phillies.

The newspaper reported the details of the game on its website on Tuesday.

Toronto deserved a Winter Classic, but given our weather in Southern Ontario and global warming, the Winter Classic could just as easily be a late spring classic.
And I doubt anyone is clamouring for an outdoor game at Rogers Centre (SkyDome).

Like I've said before a Montreal vs Toronto matchup would be a cbc ratings heaven.

They'd have to play it in montreal though since there is practically no where in TO they could do it. I remember reading once that they can't open the roof in the winter at the rogers center.

        Leafs offseason training!

Yep. It's on a set schedule which is why it doesn't open until mid May, regardless if it's warm enough to prior to that date.

I'd imagine they'll do it in Toronto in about 3-4 years, giving the Leafs some time not to be a shitty team anymore and allowing for the development of the Pan AM Games buildings, which should give a new outdoor venue for it.
