It's not quite the same thing as donating organs after you pass away. The brains are being studied for research on head trauma. Perhaps the family will donate other organs, if you believe in doing so, that's pretty generous considering they may be able to help a stranger so dramatically.

I know they are studying it. And it is far time someone did. To better the research they need to get other players besides just tough guys though so they can see what the "common" player goes through, not just guys who have huge "head" targets on their back.
And if I am the NHL, I'm a little scared of what they find with Boogards brain. The guy was 28 years old, and only played a few seasons in the NHL. Proberts brain was completely fucked.
