Feaster named permanent GM of Flames

CALGARY, Alberta (AP)—The Calgary Flames have dropped the interim tag and promoted Jay Feaster to general manager.

The team announced the move Monday at a news conference at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Feaster also confirmed that the Flames and forward Curtis Glencross(notes) have agreed to a $10.2 million, four-year contract.

Calgary hired Feaster last summer as assistant general manager to Darryl Sutter. Feaster took over as interim GM on Dec. 28 when Sutter resigned.

Calgary finished out of the playoffs for the second straight year with a 41-29-12 record this past season.

Feaster was Tampa Bay’s general manager when the Lightning beat Calgary in seven games to win the Stanley Cup in 2004.

I'm glad to see Feaster getting another chance as a GM, but he has a long, uphill battle with the Flames. They are an overpaid, underachieving roster which does not have a lot of young talent in the system right now, and I do not envy his off-season. We could see some of their big names getting moved this off-season.

I do not envy that job.

The flames are a wreck of a team.

Just look at the capgeek setup for their team and all the NTC/MMC lol

Calgary is about 3 years away from STARTING to rebuild. 3 years of watching this fall apart, then time to rebuild.

Feaster is capable of making it easier, if he can pull off some trades by maybe convincing a player to drop an NTC or something.

I remember last year HNIC talked about whether Iginla was getting traded or not so I fully expect another season of this.

If they do trade him send him to a competitor cuz that guy needs a cup.

Iginla is certainly their most valuable piece. His contract is fairly large, and the Kings and Predators are probably the only two teams who could absorb it with no questions asked.

I doubt the Preds can afford him for their payroll however, so that leaves the Kings as a suitor. Who else do you think will try and go after him?
