    John-Micheal Liles to Toronto

John-Micheal Liles is heading to Toronto.

The Avalanche sent the defenceman to the Maple Leafs in exchange for Toronto's second round draft pick in 2012.
That draft pick was acquired when the Leafs dealt Tomas Kaberle to the Bruins last year.

Liles has been with the Avs for all seven of his seasons in the NHL.
Last year, he posted six goals and 40 assists in 76 games.

The 30-year-old has 68 goals and 207 assists in 523 career games.

Liles has one year remaining on his contract at $4.5 million, with a cap hit at $4.2 million

Here we go again with Burke and his defence.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

    "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

The way VB does merging these days is gay.

      Anyways.

I like this deal a ton. Makes up for the hole Kaberle left.

It's kind of funny the pick they got from the bruins making the cup final is the one that got them liles.

I like the deal for the Leafs. Liles is a solid puck-moving defenseman and he'll replace some of the production from Kaberle. On the other hand, the Avs continue to send away vets and I wonder what they are trying to do out in Colorado, especially with such a young team.

Liles is a good player but I don't understand why the Leafs keep trading away picks. You're not contenders for feck sake, stockpile a lot of picks and see if you can actually wind up getting something you can genuinely call a prospect and not a career AHL/SEL player.

To their credit they have acquired prospects through trading (Gardiner, Colbourne, Aulie, etc)

So it's not as if they aren't acquiring players of that ilk.

Haven't really done much for their core NHL team tho, lol. Kessel is legit, but Phaneuf's a fucking bum and will never replicate his rookie year.

Leafs traded away a basically free pick for next years draft. The pick they traded away they got from the kaberle deal and boston making the finals.

They have (had) 11 total picks this year (tied for most).

Doesn't matter if it's a free pick or not. You just replaced one old defenceman for another then. Could have had 11 picks instead of 10.

They traded up for the biggs pick so they have 10 this year.

They still have 7 or 8 picks next year.

They essentially traded Kaberle for Liles, Colborne and bostons first round picks which helped in the trade for biggs.

                  Whats the issue?

The issue is this trade is the one being discussed in this thread and not them all collectively, and this one was wasteful.

Just clearing some more cap room for FA it seems. Apparently the thought is that a few of the young guys can come up and replace his production. The last two Bill Hunter Trophy winners are Avs prospects as well.
