Twitter is blowing up with his signing. It looks to be a 5 year deal worth $17million or a $3.5M cap hit.
Tanguay resigns with Calgary

The Calgary Flames signed forward Alex Tanguay to a 5-year, $17.5 million contract extension on Saturday.
The 31-year-old centre was acquired from Tampa Bay prior to last season - his second stint with the Flames.
While the Flames were able to find some cap relief by trading veteran defenceman Robyn Regehr to the Sabres, this signing eliminates any possibility of Calgary trading for Ryan Smyth - whose expected deal to the Oilers has not been completed.
Tanguay finished last season with 22 goals and 47 assists in 79 games for Calgary.
In 818 career games, he has 225 goals and 686 points.
He will be entering his 12th year in the league.

Five years?
Two would have been enough, three is pushing it. I would have much rather made the Ryan Smyth deal for a rental than signing Tanguay. I'm calling this an early identity crisis for the Flames- sign Tanguay to insane deal, but trade Regehr. Are they rebuilding or trying to compete?Comment

The thing is, guys like Tanguay are not the issue. He put up some decent points last season and should get resigned as he was a bright spot on the team. Hopefully he does well again and use him as trade bait.
To me it is a lot of other players in the Flames that need to go first. That list would include
Stajan - At $3.5M he is the most obvious player that needs to get shoved. Move him at all cost, because he is a waste of cap space for the next three seasons. (6G, 25A in 76 games)
Langkow - Another waste of space. He isn't a top 2 centre, yet Calgary keeps putting him there. At $4.5M he hopefully isn't resigned next season. Played 4 games last season, year before that in 72 games he had 14G and 23assists. Not worth $4.5M money.
Also look at that defence. Bouwmeester - $6.690M, Giordano - $4.020M, Sarich - $3.600M. A lot of overpaid players here what they don't bring to the table. Bouwmeester has not cracked 30pts with Calgary despite doing it every year with a shitty florida team. Not worth $6M.
The thing to look at with Calgary is, this isn't the year. They will make one final go at it I think, then next season when all the money comes back, they will start (hopefully).
Next season they get back a fuckload of money. Just look at this list.
Langkow - $4.5M
Hagman - $3.0M
Jokinen - $3.0M
Moss - $1.3M
Sarich - $3.6M
That is a lot of money and a lot of useless talent. Hagman is another to add to the list they should be happy to let go, and I think the Jokinen experiment has got to finished after two stints with the team.
Calgary needs to start drafting better, getting prospects and building the system. They have done such a piss poor job of it. I've said before about the Flames that they are just like Toronto a few years back. They knew they needed to rebuild, but they just kept clinging onto it and hoped something stuck to the wall. All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.
