Cyborg walks away from Zuffa, vacates title...and then comes back

Looks like Zuffa is off the WMMA train besides a Gina fight I guess, not good for Cyborg

Gina Carano can rest easy .... for now.

Strikeforce Women's 145-pound Champion Cristiane Santos is leaving her belt in San Jose after failing to reach an agreement with Strikeforce on a contract extension.

    Cage Potato has the details:

A source we spoke to today received confirmation from Cyborg’s management that Zuffa’s exclusive negotiation period with the 10-1 Curitiba, Brazil fighter ended yesterday and that the parent company of Strikeforce and the UFC failed to come to terms with the Strikeforce women’s middleweight champ before she became a free agent at the stroke of midnight.

The report also states that Santos is in "serious discussions" with a competing promotion and could have a deal finalized as early as this weekend -- assuming they found a soul brave enough to fight her.

    Tatame.com has more:

Her manager Rudimar Fedrigo clarified Cyborg's situation. "We're still negotiating, the financial part is the point, but, meanwhile, she's set to fight in Brazil and is negotiating two more fights in Singapore."

    Money talks, "Cyborg" walks.

I would think that she jumps to ProElite, but most of the big female talent are still under Strikeforce/ZUFFA. HIROKO Yamanaka is a viable option, but she's a no-name in the US. Same goes for Rin Nakai. Rousey's not ready yet for Cyborg. Maybe Erin Toughill can get off her ass and make the fight happen there?

She asked for an ungodly amount of money per appearance from the WWE, so her demands have likely priced her out of options.

That and no one wanted to fight her anyway, so can't blame Zuffa on this one. I don't think this means the end of WMMA in SF at all.

Other than a select few DIE HARD MMA fans, no one cares about WMMA anyways when Gina isn't fighting. Zuffa probably isn't too upset about not having her on the books.

Keep in mind, talking to WWE was likely just a leverage move to pressure SF, but it does show how where she pegs her value to some extent.

Looks like he may have signed

Despite conflicting reports recently as to whether Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos has departed ways with Strikeforce, her manager Master Rudimar Fedrigo has confirmed to FCF today that the 145lb. champion has renewed her contract with the promotion.

Although the Chute Boxe founder did not provide any details regarding the contract, Fedrigo did state that he is “very happy” that the fighter is continuing on with Strikeforce.

Late last week Fedrigo informed FCF that he and Santos were still in talks with Strikeforce, despite reports that negotiations between the two parties had broken down.

                  She'd probably draw better.

Actually, her ratings were disappointing aside from the gina fight.
