    Flyers send Versteeg to Panthers

The Florida Panthers have acquired forward Kris Versteeg from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for 2012 or 2013 second round pick and San Jose's 2012 third round pick.

The 25-year-old forward split last season with the Flyers, where he played 27 games, and the Toronto Maple Leafs who acquired him in a trade prior to the season. Between the two teams Versteeg scored 21 goals and added 28 assists.

Versteeg was drafted 134th overall in the 5th round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

He made his debut in the 2007-08 season with the Chicago Blackhawks and helped them capture the Stanley Cup in 2010.

Tallon acquires another former Blackhawk from a team that was looking to clear salary. Panthers have been one of the busiest teams so far, and I do like the Versteeg move, along with Upshall. They still need to get a difference-maker in the top six forwards.

I still think he is a good player when healthy, I just didn't like his game at all when he came to Philly. Pretty good return for him after we gave up a first to get him

Versteeg should do well on the Panthers. Tallon know's the role he can play. On Toronto he was thrown into a situation where they wanted him to be something he wasn't. In philly, he was just another guy basically.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

        "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

And that's the reason why he was so hated here. When the Flyers traded a first rounder for him and put him on Richards line, he was expected to be a lot more than just another guy. He's still a good all around player, but I think everyone had too high of expectations from him.

He was on the third line in Chicago and everyone thought that he should be top 6, but on the Hawks, there was no room. Well, no, some guys just are third liners. He can score, but he isn't a top 6. Actually, he is maybe the 6th guy, but there needs to be a list of others ahead of him.

He's a top sixer in Florida (obviously), but he'll be able to be that top sixer with no one watching, so, different ball game over playing in Chicago, Philly, and Toronto.

He and Fleishmann are the two guys they'll try and infuse into the top six, I'm sure, as they just have nobody up there.

What is also interesting about all this is, everyone was screaming trade Versteeg and keep Carter and Richards. They just blew up this team for really no reason. They lost enough guys they could have easily signed Bryzgalov without having to worry about cap, yet they also shipped those two. I have a feeling Flyer fans are in for a long couple of years.

                    That's scares me,

Out is Richards, Carter, Leion, Versteeg

                    In is Jagr, Simmonds, Talbot...

Like just look at this line up.

                    GOALTENDERS
                    Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.666m) / Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m)

(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,022,262; BONUSES: $3,815,000
                    CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $3,277,738

To me, that isn't the Flyers you use to fear and had so much scoring power. They seem to have very little of anything anymore, and besides a goalie and defence, are going to be weak in the scoring front.

The offense is definitely going to take a hit but I think they're banking giving up a LOT less goals than last year. I look at it as kind of what the Phillies did bringing in all those pitchers, they don't score many runs but they still have the best record in baseball.

And it was also about changing the culture of the team, too often last year players didn't play with any intensity at all, plus they needed to get some prospects and they got two A level prospects from the deals.
