If it doesn't, MMA is pretty much fucked and becomes stagnant for a few years.

Holy shit that was funny. What was that for ?

Shows you the vast difference between going off the cuff and having to read off a teleprompter.

                    Liddells face was priceless.

They have a lot to gain and nothing to lose. If it does bad they won't capture a new fanbase, but their current fanbase isn't going anywhere regardless of this event.

One fight is a big mistake. One of the huge advantages MMA has over boxing, is they have taught fans that the entire card matters, not just one fight. Now the UFC will presumably expose their product to the largest set of eyeballs ever, and they are telling people (i.e. new viewers) that not only one fight is all that matters, but that the heavyweight title fight is all that matters!

And don't bring up Guida/Hendo getting on TV in the event of a short Cain/JDS fight. The worst case scenario for the UFC would be a short Cain/JDS fight, followed by an awesome Guida/Hendo fight. Why? Because all of the talk the next day from the old sportswriters and talking heads will be about how the main event was a short dud (which is how the media reacts to short boxing matches, which like it or not, fair or unfair, this will be compared to if it's a quick KO), and how the 'nobodies' that fought afterwards had a better fight.

You have to look at this through the eyes of a novice who is conditioned to boxing. I'm actually pretty surprised Dana fell into this trap.

I agree that they should have promoted Bendo/Guia on the main card, but with only one hour to play with I can understand why they kept it to only one. With that said, it would really suck for them if Cain/JDS ended in one round.

I can see it now, fans saying how great the big KO was the night before, not understanding that the casual sports fan who checked this out for the first time after seeing the promos every Sunday during football is likely thinking, "That's it, 90 seconds of fighting? I'd feel real ripped off if I had paid $60 for that."
