What a fucking terrible idea. I get why they would want it, but man, would that mess up the league. I would like to think they would have a legal fight on their hands if they tried it, but hoping it never gets that far.

This would ruin English soccer. Part of of what makes soccer great is the promotion/relegation system. The fact that some team could rise from way down all the way to the Premiere League is awesome. Its also great when you see better teams falter and try to avoid relegation. If a team has a bad year, they've got no worries because they can just regroup next year and give it another go.

I wish American sports would adopt the promotion/relegation system to be honest. It is an excellent idea.

I've always found it interesting and ironic that soccer has a very capitalist overall approach to the sport, whereas all the major North American team sports are much more socialist in design.

              From the article:

Several of the biggest Premier League clubs want to scrap relegation and promotion, according to the League Managers' Association chief executive, Richard Bevan.
The biggest teams have the least to worry about when it comes to relegation, though... I don't get that.

And if they got rid of promotion/relegation, who gets to decide who permanently stays up in the Premier League and who permanently stays down? And would you add more teams to the current 20? And if you added teams, wouldn't you have to make the schedule longer?

This whole thing is just a bad idea.
