Meant to respond to this previously... Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the idea. He snubbed his home nation until Holland made it clear they aren't interested. While he could help Canada on the pitch, I dislike the principle of it.

I'm not so sure I look at it that way, it's not so much that he snubbed us like some players did...he had great potential and left at 12 years old. He learned his abilities over there, not in Canada.
He's Canadian by birth with Filipino/some Caribbean heritage. Outside of childhood, he's got nothing that makes me feel like he spurned us.
While I can see where people are coming from, I don't agree with it, but either way if a player of his calibur does the opposite and comes to play for Canada, I think it could reverse the conception that was mostly started by Whoregreaves to not play for the CMNT.
I think if he comes, Hoilett follows along not long after. On paper we'd be #3 in the region easily and be a much bigger threat vs the big two.
It’s clear he's desperate to play for Canada now. Hart met with him twice recently in Spain. The discussions are no longer exploratory. It’s not about feeling out his desire to play for Canada. It’s beyond that now, and more about how to stickhandle through the immigration minefield.
His brother Julian tells me if you could wave a magic wand and make it happen, Jonathan would pull on that new Umbro kit tomorrow. I've always been dubious that it could happen in time for the June qualifiers, but I'm told that's the goal and that the De Guzmans are hopeful and in fact confident that it will happen.
If he doesn't leave the EPL, he would eventually qualify for England. But then there's that whole "gentlemen's agreement" the British Isles follow, and that would be against it.
His father is pushing for him to play for Jamaica.
