    ECW/New Alhambra/The Arena/Asylum Arena/Viking Hall may be closing

Details are sketchy, but this could be the end. There is talk that CHIKARA & CZW have been asked to vacate and come get their shit immediately, and that the building will no longer house wrestling.

This would be heartbreaking for me personally, and also mark the end of an era. Whatever you want to call the place (most people still call it the ECW Arena), for almost 20 years, with apologies to MSG, it's been the mecca of wrestling in North America.

ECW, ROH, CZW, CHIKARA, Dragon Gate USA, and even TNA & WWE have run the building, along with countless other indy groups and nostalgia shows. Nearly every relevant talent in wrestling over the last 15-20 years has worked the building. Countless historical moments have taken place there. I would be wiling to wager, that aside from places like Budokan Hall or Korakuen Hall or Differ Ariake or maybe the Tokyo Dome, more great matches have taken place at "the bingo hall" than anyplace else on earth.

I have been there dozens of times to see ECW, ROH, CHIKARA, and DGUSA. I liked it better pre renovation, but it's still the best place in the world to watch a show. The gritty feel, the intimacy, and you can just feel the history when you walk into the place. Even in the middle of the summer, it seems like it's in the coldest, wettest, and grimiest part of South Philly.

If this really is the end, I am flying back to Jersey for whatever the last show is. Even if it's CZW and I have to coexist with the cretins and weirdos that inhabit those shows.

      That's heartbreaking. For real.

I've had some of my most memorable moments with my brother in that building. If it really is going the way of the dodo bird, work schedule permitting...I'll be there.

This news actually takes my mood down a bit. Damn.

              The latest:

For some time today, it appeared that the fabled former ECW Arena had hosted its last pro wrestling event as the building's general manager Roger Artigiani contacted promoters who had equipment housed in the facility and told them they had 48 hours to remove their items from the property.

Several weeks ago The Philadelphia Daily News featured an article about issues between Artigiani, and another potential leaseholder, Joanna Pang, that wanted to expand and make the venue a concert hall while potentially eliminating pro wrestling events. As it turns out, a deal was made, with Artigiani agreeing to sell off his side of the business to Pang.

Initially, it appeared that was going to be it for wrestling events in the venue, but a scheduled January double header featuring CZW and EVOLVE will still go on as scheduled. CZW owner DJ Hyde will be meeting with Pang going forward regarding use of the venue, although wrestling schools operated by CHIKARA and CZW will be moving from the property. CZW still expects to run the venue as they have run more shows there than any other company, but the future of additional groups running the legendary venue is still up in the air.

The venue debuted as a wrestling arena for ECW when founder Tod Gordon ran there in 1993. It quickly became one of the more famous wrestling venues in the world.

We will have more information as it comes in.
              Who knows.

His TV debut was Hammerstein, I know that for a fact.

The same night as the infamous "change the channel" chant during the Big Show/Batista match that led to Vince vowing to never book Hammerstein again, because Punk was over and the main event go pooped on.
