Did Jones have the greatest year ever?

Shoguns 05 looks really impressive.
Isnt Jones run more of a 6 month span ?
My old order of guys who could beat Jones
1. Rashad...that time may have passed. Jones has improved has already been "shocked" and won. Is faster , more KO power , but the ground game and how he handles the reach is an unknown to anyone outside that gym. They must have really gotten at each other for both to avoid each other the way they have.
2. Machida- Had the elusiveness , power , and timing...completely outmatched on ground.
3. Phil Davis- Nowhere near the standup of the other two ..can match the athleticism but not the reach. Only he OR rashad will get a shot.
Hendo surprised the shit out of me by beating shogun. But I still think he lacks the footwork to beat Jones. All it takes is one shot though.Best reason to have a license.

Cruz is comparable because?? Is he a WW now?Comment

The point, is GSP fights in a different weight class than Silva, so this idea that he should move up to fight him just because he dominates his division is the fan mindset that I don't agree with. Why should he move up? He's a WW fighter, that's that. Plus Silva is a gigantic MW and GSP is on the smaller side for a WW, but we've been over that before. They aren't even close to being comparable sizes.Comment

Fighters move up and down in weight classes all the time. If there's a bigger fight in another division, they make the move. It happens all the time in boxing. Look at Manny. Tons of MMA fighters do the same. What makes GSP special that he can't even consider moving up one class? It's not a fans mindset either, it's a fighters mindset like I said before. A fighter should want to take on the best and prove himself against the best competition. For GSP that's Anderson Silva and no one else. It's not an impossible move for him, even if he would be small at MW. Cain is small at HW, JDS is small at HW, Frankie is small at LW.
GSP cuts weight to fight at WW so he isn't even that small and moving up one class is very realistic if he wanted to do it.Comment

While it may be realistic it doesnt make it logical. I appreciate that its nice to "Challenge yourself", and try to go up in weight and conquer another division, but realistically he is going to be at a massive size disadvantage if he goes up to fight Anderson. Furthermore, hes stated in the past if he does move on he'd want to do it correctly, which to me means even if he does go to MW he should be fighting a bunch of lesser fighters at that weight before jumping right at the champ. What I think is more realistic, and more logical, is Anderson moving to 205.. which his size would fully allow him to do, and effectively mind you, but for some reason while people knock GSP for not wanting to move up, they dont knock Anderson for not moving up more, despite showing hes capable of doing so. There are a number of great matchups for Anderson @ 205, the only thing people are dying to see @ 185 for GSP is Anderson, anything less isnt even going to mean much to most fans.Comment

GSP is one weight class down, let's not make a comparison to someone moving up 4 weight classes. It's not remotely comparable.

And again, why should he be forced or pressured to fight as a small MW? Just because he dominates his own class? We always say guys should come up as some sort of badge of honor, which is silly. Especially since people expect him to not only fight a significantly larger man, but the most dominant fighter on the planet.
Each case is different, and in this case, I agree with GSP. If you want him to move up, strip him and tell him he's a full time MW. Let him put on some muscle and work his way up the division. Silva already has to cut just to get to 205, put heat on him to move up, he's the same size as those guys.Comment

I have nor will I have any interest in GSP /Silva. None.
Silva @ 205 is chock full of potential amazing fights. Silva/Jones is the closest we've had to a dream fight in years. Far too often these dream matches get put off and it never has the spark it should or someone loses and it doesnt happen (overeem fedor , liddell silva , Brock Overeem) come to mind.
Silva @ 205 is the only thing I care about.
I still think Silva murders Jones but its clear hes scared of the potential loss.Best reason to have a license.

It may "only" be one weight class, but again, you are talking about a WW who is on the smaller side for WW's (who cares if he cuts, everybody cuts, he cuts less), moving up to face a MW who is on the larger side for MW's. Silva has a very odd frame, tall, gangly, and has the ability to cut a ton of weight. He's a large MW, let alone in comparison to a small WW. The boxing comparison means nothing, because you aren't talking about a sport where weight is as much of a factor (in terms of smothering a guy on the ground or against the cage, and in clinches, etc), plus boxing has a million weight classes separated by like 3 lb increments.
And again, why should he be forced or pressured to fight as a small MW? Just because he dominates his own class? We always say guys should come up as some sort of badge of honor, which is silly. BJ Penn is small and didn't have a problem moving up and taking on the challenge. Penn has the mind and heart of a fighter. No one is saying that he should be forced to do anything, it's a shocker that he simply doesn't want to. Silva is even willing to cut to a catch weight.
It's not like he should move up because he cleaned out his division. He should move up because that's where Silva is at. If they were in the same weight division there'd be no reason for GSP to move up no matter how many WWs he beats. He needs to move up because it's the only way to decide who's the best fighter.Comment

And1 has had hand picked matches at 205, Irvin and Forest, Forest coming off a brutal loss and mentally shot, probably told to 'stand and bang' also
BJ Penn, Hendo and a couple others are the real fighters who have no issues fighting people at higher weight and don't hand pick who they fightLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings
