    Habs fire Martin

Jacques Martin has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens.

Randy Cunneyworth has been named interim head coach until the end of the season.

The team has gotten out to a 13-12-7 start this season and currently sits last in the Northeast Division.

Cunneyworth had been an assistant coach with the team and had previously served as head coach of the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Hamilton.

In one season coaching the Bulldogs Cunneyworth led the team to a 44-27-2-7 record, good enough to claim the AHL North Division title.

The 57-year-old Martin has been the Canadiens head coach since the 2008-09 season. He has amassed a 96-75-25 record with the team.

Martin has coached 1294 NHL games with St. Louis, Ottawa, Florida and Montreal, posting a record of 613-481-119-81.

A team release has indicated that Larry Carriere will become an assistant coach.

Cunneyworth and general manager Pierre Gauthier will address the media at a joint press conference scheduled for noon et.

Would not at all be surprised to see Therrien or Hartley get a look for this job. It probably ends up being one of them, as they can speak both English and French.

All I keep hearing on the radio is that if Cunneyworth doesn't learn French or win a Stanley Cup this year then it is almost certain he will not be back next season...

And for what it' worth, I really liked Martin. He got off to a bad start this year but I really liked what he did when it came time to play in the playoffs.

Fucking stupid french people. So you want the NHL coach to pull his attention away from the team to learn french. Yeah, that is sure going to make you win the cup. At this point, making the playoffs would be lucky.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

      "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

Well, if he doesn't make the playoffs then we can fire him and hire a French coach. Thats what most of the people are hoping for anyway... And also, at this point probably Pierre Gauthier also for making such a fucking dumb move (among many others)

The coach isn't the problem with that organization. Gauthier (and Gainey as well) has destroyed that organization.

With one of the most important RFA periods coming up for them this year they have no cap space and a bunch of players who are among the top in the league at severly under achieving compared to their contracts.

          Leafs offseason training!

Ryan McDonagh is our current #2 defenceman by the way, thanks France.
