Eddie Alvarez is talking like his Bellator contract is almost up

Good news that the fight is official. It sounds like he's going to try and parlay the win over Aoki to see what he can get with the UFC as a FA. I think that is a rough gamble (Aoki could EASILY tap him again) and it would set Eddie back a bit if he lost two in a row.

Those champion contracts must be restrictive as hell.

If Alvarez beats Aoki and is able to negotiate with whomever. If you're Zuffa, would you offer him a deal with Strikeforce with the cherry being Melendez? Or straight to the mix in the UFC?

I'd probably go with Option A because if they are dead set on keeping Gil in Strikeforce, they need to keep him happy and provide him worthy challengers. Since Eddie has finally lost, the aura he had is no longer there and immediately throwing him in the UFC wouldn't do much for them now.

The hard part would be convincing Eddie to work the B-show. I don't think the paycut would be worth it honestly.

Yeah, the reason Alvarez is with Bellator in the first place is because he makes six figures per fight and UFC wasn't going to give him that. I doubt they would ever give him a six figure deal to fight in Strikeforce, so the only option would be UFC, but even now I doubt they think he is worth that much.

I didn't watch the video, but I do know that he declined entering the 155 tournament this season.
