Looking forward to the matches in bold. Especially the junior tag, the elimination match (always fun), and the Naito/Nakamura match.

The new owners of the company LOVE Okada, and there is speculation that they want to put the belt on him and make him a new star. The problem is, his push has gotten over like a fart in a church and the people aren't buying him. I don't know the result, but if they ended Tanahashi's long title run here, it was a mistake. Okada was the guy who was in TNA forever on excursion and was barely ever used on TV.

I had a feeling they were gonna pull the trigger on Okada, and while I think he's a big, athletic dude with some cool looking moves, this was not the right time to dethrone the great Hiroshi Tanahashi.

So Samoa Joe's sidekick geek from TNA...

...is your new IWGP Champion.

OK.

Anyway, the show was pretty good, better than WrestleKingdom imo, three title switches, and each one was somewhat of a surprise. Thumbs up overall.

It's going to be Okada vs Naito at the next PPV. Nakamura and Tanahashi go down, so NEW BEGINNING indeed.

Yeah, it was too soon.

I would have like to have seen a spirited loss, with Tanahashi doing the whole "wow, I respect you, you were tougher than I thought" routine and offering a handshake or something, with Okada blowing him off to set up a rematch down the line. That would have gotten him over and you can do the switch when he's ready.

The fans were getting into the match and the near falls, but did not expect (and did not want) Okada to win. He just isnt ready. Me & my buddy were shaking our heads at his lack of charisma after the match. When they were doing the whole trophy deal that they do after title matches, he couldnt have been less engaging, with his weak looking handshakes and just handing off the trophies to the ring boys. It was like he didnt want to be there. I mean, you are getting the push 99% of guys dream about and never get, can you at least pretend to be excited??

Also funny how they dont trust him to cut promos, so Gedo does all of the talking for him. If this guy had a fraction of Gedo's charisma, he'd be a mega star already, because he really does look like a million bucks.

This reminds me of WWE rushing the belt on guys like Swagger and Sheamus and Ziggler before the fans are ready for them. It just makes no sense and makes the guy look bad.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking, its one of those, and they interrupted a legendary title run with it. A shame. Wrong time...wrong guy to do it with...just...blah.
