Hey, hey, Hockeytown! [Red Wings Thread]

No random thoughts, but we can have team random thought threads.

    Possible player moves - http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...usikQqg3M5nYcB

Teemu Selanne Joins The Detroit Red Wings
The Anaheim Ducks are on an incredible roll. A preposterous roll. A roll that Bruce Boudreau would be intimidated to eat. Yet they only have a 3.8-percent chance at qualifying for the playoffs, and a loss here or there before the deadline could bring that even lower.

Selanne hasn't been thinking about "other options" during the Ducks' resurgence, but it's going to have to happen at some point. If he does decide to move, the Winnipeg Jets are the obvious, nostalgic, storybook choice … and yet one that has about a great a shot at winning the Stanley Cup as the Sacramento Kings.

If you want to see Teemu hoist Stanley like it's a ceramic pig, then the options are limited. Maybe the Rangers? Maybe back to the Sharks? Or, maybe, skating with best buddy Valtteri Filppula and the Detroit Red Wings at the top of the conference.

Oh yes. That last one would be fun.

Selanne, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Fransen and Lidstrom on the same power play droooooool.

For most fans, seeing Selanne as a Red Wing will be blasphemy. But what if that leads to Selanne and Lidstrom posing with the Stanley Cup, eh?
Seeing Selanne in a Wings jersey would be cool if this was 2002. Of course he would more than likely contribute but the Wings are rolling. They are still sketchy on the road but if we have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs road victories won't be necessary.

It is a good thing he scored, or if they won in overtime it would just be another win with an *.

I'm just fucking with you. I really do think the "history book" has to have era's, because you can't just keep taking away history because the rules have changed over the years. Who knows how many wins they would have had back in the day if they had the shootout.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

          "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

Nice win today. If I didn't live by hundreds of Sharks fans, it wouldn't be nearly as sweet.

The Detroit Red Wings placed goaltender Ty Conklin on waivers today. If he clears waivers at noon Tuesday, he’ll be sent to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.

“Obviously, Joey’s been a great story for us,” general manager Ken Holland said of Joey MacDonald, who won his sixth straight game for the Wings on Sunday. “I still think Ty’s got some good hockey in him.”

MacDonald has been subbing for starter Jimmy Howard, who has a broken finger. Howard is scheduled to return Tuesday at Chicago.

So why wouldn't the Wings send MacDonald down so he can play and stay sharp?

“Well, I think Ty Conklin needs to play,” Holland said. “He’s never really got her going. His starts have been sporadic, and his play’s probably been sporadic.”

The move is not unexpected. MacDonald has a 1.66 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage and is 6-1-1. Conklin has a 3.40 GAA, an .878 save percentage and is 3-5 in 11 games.

Pavel Datsyuk will miss the next stretch of games after having his knee scoped this morning. Henrik Zetterberg is expected to center the top line in his absence.

General Manager Ken Holland called the procedure 'minor' and said that #13 should be 'good to go in a couple of weeks.'

The Detroit Red Wings re-signed forward Todd Bertuzzi to a two-year contract Thursday.

The deal is worth $4.15 million, and includes a no-trade clause, a source told ESPN.com.

Bertuzzi, 37, would have been an unrestricted free agent July 1.

"We're very happy to keep Todd in Detroit for another two years," Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. "He's played a big role on the team this season as one of our top-six forwards and has really worked hard to become a dependable two-way player for us. He fits in really well with our group, both on the ice and in the locker room."

Bertuzzi has 12 goals and 17 assists in 54 games this season, and is plus-21. He is in his 16th season, and also has played for the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames.

"It was easy to do," Bertuzzi told the Detroit Free Press, referring to the new deal. "I love being here, I love being part of the Wings. I'm really excited about our team this year. I feel we're very focused, especially on playing defense. We lacked that last year, and in training camp, everybody pretty much decided to up the ante."

We played a bad game last night, toward the end of the third it got exciting with all the goals being scored but there was a lot of sloppy play. Still #1, but the loss hurts a little bit.
