    Stars trade Grossman to Flyers

The Dallas Stars have traded defenceman Nicklas Grossman to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft - originally Los Angeles' pick - and a third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft - originally Minnesota's pick.

Grossman, 27, has skated in 52 games for the Stars this season, earning five assists and 26 penalty minutes. The 6'4, 230-pound blue-liner has 333 NHL games under his belt, scoring three goals and 38 assists for 41 points.

Grossman is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Admittedly not a puckhead, but I do follow the Flyers. Was this guy worth a 2nd and 3rd? I never heard of this guy, is he that highly regarded?

It is pretty much the going rate for toughness on the blue line since Hal Gill was moved a few seasons ago. Nothing special offensively but he should help on the back end.

Not exactly with giving up 2 picks for a rental but it's a buyers market this year with few sellers so I guess it's the price we have to pay. Don't think it will help us win the cup but who knows if Bryz gets hot.

EDIT - Nevermind, I feel a lot better about the trade. We sent the King's second rounder we got in the Richards trade and the Wild's third rounder that we got in the Powe deal. So we still have the Panthers 2nd round pick and our own 3rd rounder.

Way over paid for that. I don't care what teams the picks come from, it was a huge over pay for a #4 defence. But I guess if you have a bunch of draft picks you don't give a shit about, you might as well throw them away. Plus as said, with limited people left to move, doing it now for this price was probably what they had to do.

I can really see this trade deadline being slow, because there isn't any major players in play that don't come with a fuck load of issues. There isn't a lot of big superstars on their final year. Probably see a lot of 3rd liners moved if anything, and the odd top 6 forward.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

          "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

            ???

And the way the market is going this year, this isn't an awful overpayment. Grossman is better than the alternative, which is getting stuck with a Hal Gill or Marek Zidlicky.

I saw that he's only making $1.6 mil this year which hopefully will mean he won't be too expensive to re-sign over summer. Flyers need a physical presence on D very badly, I've read that this guy doesn't always play to his size but we'll see.

He isn't in the final year of his deal, he has a bunch of years left. There isn't like your Hossa type players. Your big top 6 players who are a one year loan.

2nd and 3rd round pick is high but probably needed since other teams like boston were offering 3rd rounders +
