Dave Meltzer writes for Grantland now

Let go by Yahoo, picked up by Bill Simmons, who is a long time Observer subscriber and has had Meltzer on his podcast at least once. I'm surprised Big Dave wasn't writing for Grantland sooner, but maybe contractually he wasn't allowed. Oddly, they haven't had an MMA writer until now (they do have a wrestling guy, David Shoemaker, who does a great job), so I guess Simmons was saving the spot.

His first piece was on Overeem. No new ground if you're a hardcore, but this is Grantland, so it was written for the masses.

There is some good stuff, but a lot of self important trash from people like Klosterman, and tons of smarmy hipster bullshit from all of the smug Simmons wanna bees.

Bill James, Jonah Keri, now Meltzer, Shoemaker, there are a few really good writers on there. Even Simmons still delivers when he isnt doing 17,000 words on stupid shit like the NBA trade deadline.

If you're skipping articles on Grantland because of the pretentious trash you're really, really missing out on some great stuff from some of the "no-namers" that bring the goods.

Jonah Keri is a must read for any MLB fan and Shoemaker is the best wrestling writer on the web.

Occasional good articles by Grantland...I still think the Ric Flair piece was GOAT.
