    He's announcing his retirement, supposedly.

Sources tell TSN that Nicklas Lidstrom is ready to call it a career.

The Red Wings have scheduled a news conference for Thursday in Detroit where the 42-year-old blueliner is expected to announce his retirement.

The guy can still play for sure, but I don't think he has much more to play for, in terms of the fact that he has won everything.

I don't think it's typical that a player as unassuming as Lidstrom would have a press conference to say he isn't retiring. I'd guess he's hanging up his skates on that fact alone.

        Same exact thought.

Bittersweet for someone who has watched the Sharks for the last 22 years.

One of the GOATs. I'm glad I got to watch him play.

Great player, great career and one of the best to play the game period. I am glad Lidstrom stuck around and could call his career on his own terms.

So sad. He's been my favorite Wing since I can remember. There will never be another "Perfect Human".
