      Umm, WTF.

Boateng plays at CB for his club and only plays RB out of necessity. He isn't overly good in that position but Hummels and Badstuber are better CBs so he gets put there. Lahm would be the best German RB but they force him to the left.

Also, squads are submitted well ahead so it's not like Chandler could just step in...

Chandler is a relatively talented young player who still has upside. There aren't a lot of young FBs who have impressed for Germany so I dont think him getting a shot is super far fetched

Chandler was going to play LB for the US as he is two footed and because Cherundelo is already at right back for the US. The other right backs in the current German squad are Howedes and...nothing. Even Howedes is a CB for his club

Rumors before the tourney had Schmelzer at LB and Lahm at right but he had a rough go in the pre Euro friendlies

Philipp Lahm is only 28. It's not like he's that old. Plus, Benedikt Howedes can play RB as well.

Ideally Chandler decides to play for us in the future and displaces Cherundolo in the future, he won't last forever and he's solid enough to have, but not great. Then Johnson on the left and we'll at least be comfortable at fullback.

Agreed. Watching the USMNT last few friendlies/WC qualifying matches, I think its clear Dolo has lost a step. By 2014 Chandler and Johnson will probably be the two fullbacks.

Remember when LB was the biggest question mark just a few short years ago? And now it's one of our deepest positions.

Fabian has looked great at LB, in the international arena you need that backer who can overlap or come backside into the play. Cherundolo has a lot of heart and has done well for his size, but as said, he is getting older and I don't think he has much shelf life left. I'm glad they finally moved on from Bornstein, he was just awful.

I wonder what happened with Brek Shea and Jurgen's thoughts on him. I thought Shea looked great at left wing. Now he isn't in the squad, nor has the Olympics for experience. I think he'd be better of than Torres. Torres looked good at first buy has just gotten lost in play recently.

Shea has some "maturity issues." But yeah, I'm a big Torres fan as well. I think he fits better in the middle, but hes crowded out with Jones and Bradley already there.

I feel like everybody loves Torres, it's just hard to fit him in there. I expect Shea to have a good future, but he hadn't done remarkably well for the US after his first few caps, needs to make a move abroad before he stalls.

I agree, hope it is to the EPL

Shea has that great combination of size/strength/speed to be a successful winger. He needs to prove himself in the MLS before he heads to Europe. Adu and Altidore left too early IMO and that really hurt their progression. It took Jozy three season to finally establish himself in Europe, while Adu never did and now he's back in the MLS still with the U23 squad.
