Well that's a big news story to wake up to haha. Too bad I'll be at work for the next like 10 hours, have to try and keep updated. So what's the process from here?

They have seven days to match the deal or he goes to the Flyers. Compensation is tied to the average yearly salary, and expected to be either four first round draft picks or two first round picks, one second and one third.

I really think the Preds need to step up and retain him. If not, it's going to be a long road back to being a competitive team.

@DarrenDreger: Its going to be fascinating to see financial terms of Weber's offer sheet. Hearing in one calendar year, he could make $26 mil.

BTW per the cba they would have to cough up 4 first round picks.

Preds need to match it simply because the 4 first round picks are going to be later round picks for the next four years, as you know the Flyers are not going to miss the playoffs in the next four seasons. So unless you use them as trade bait, they are really not amazing. Plus then you get Weber locked up for 14 years and never have to worry about him again.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

              "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

                Darren Dreger‏@DarrenDreger

                Weber will receive $14 mil in each of 1st 4 years. $12 mil in next 2 yrs. $6mil in following 4 yrs...then $3mil and $1mil, $1mil,$1mil,$1mil

I hope this gets rejected. Just bullshit constantly and the owners are crying they arn't making enough money.

If they rejected Kovy's, they need to reject this as well. I guess the only thing you can say is technically Weber is actually likely to finish off his entire contract unlike Kovy who would be like 44 when his runs out or something stupid.

This is why you need a new CBA in place before free agency, because everyone knows 5 year deals are coming, and so they want everyone signed long term.

If Nashville doesn't match they'll be a lotto team, the fan support will head down the shitter, and they'll end up in Quebec City or Markham.

The real winner here is Tailback, who was right about seeing Weber in San Jose.

NHL contracts are absolutely ridiculous in terms of length.

It has to do with a loophole teams found in the CBA, which should be closed with the new one currently being negotiated. Teams will stretch these deals out to spread the cap hit, as it's not determined by their yearly salary, but average across the deal.
