There's more to the story. The way it's structured, Dana can deny it and not be lying.

Cormier has known for 2 weeks that Sylvia would be the opponent.

Remember, the parent company for Strikeforce is not Zuffa...it's Forza.

Or perhaps Showtime signed him. But Cormier is still under the impression that he's fighting Big Timmy. And Steven Marrocco, the guy who reported the story for MMAjunkie, is extremely reliable. He wouldn't have published the story without multiple confirmations.
And then there is this, when asked if he has heard who Barnett will be fighting....

The guy they have in mind right now, and I don't know if the fight has been signed, is a guy that you've likely never heard of. Unless you follow King of the Cage religiously.
When somebody said "please don't say Tony Lopez" (lol), he replied "Well, you got half the name right".

Now Botter says the fight isn't happening again:

Finally got some real confirmation on this thing. It's a weird story, but Sylvia has not, in fact, signed to face Cormier.

I'm told MMAjunkie will have the full details tomorrow.

My bad I thought cormier was fighting him but Barnett should be fighting Tony Johnson if they are talking KOTC former heavyweight champ on a 2 fight win streak not a dangerous fight for Barnett so it probably will be made

Maurice Smith is a historic figure in NHB/MMA, dont try and rewrite history on him just by going over his record, when he beat Mark Coleman it was probably the one of the biggest wins in NHB/MMA in its time, a game changing win

Tim had no wins that come close to beating a Monster like Coleman with less rules that were not striker friendly, Tims jab for 5 round fights do not compare to an early champ in a different time period

Sylvia was a champion during a very thin era for heavyweights in the UFC, maybe the weakest era ever. It was easily UFC's softest weight class at the time, Barnett was shunned, Mir was recovering from his accident, Randy was at 205, the best heavyweights like Fedor were elsewhere, and guys like Tra Telligman were getting UFC title shots.

I'm not saying tim was good but he did defend a couple times beat arlovski when he was in his prime. As far as Smith I agree but he was a worse champion Dave Menne is a historical figure but you can't tell me he was good

Maurice Smith was good, let's see, former Kickboxing champ, gets into the game late, Extreme Fighting HW champ, than wins the UFC title against an undefeated monster in a tougher rule set for strikers defends his belt, yeah, he wasn't any good...

People keep saying UFC 33 and latest 149 were the worst. For me, nothing gets worse than UFC 65: Monson vs Sylvia.

We are not talking about kickboxing we are talking about UFC the organization He defended the belt once and won because of exhaustion against tank abbott lost 2 in a row to Randleman and Couture ( respectable) beat Marco Ruas (ready to retire) barely beat Bobby Hoffman and then lost to Sobral so he was a good kickboxer but as a Heavyweight champ not great beating Mark Coleman was huge but he wasn't champion then I look at his championship run when he had the belt he fought Abbott and Couture and defended once not a great run in my book in terms of what he did as champion
