Why Vera has a CHANCE to upset Shogun

Before you guys troll the hell out of me, please hear me out. I am not saying he will shock the world against Shogun,BUT it is a possibility. Look at it this way, Vera has nothing to lose and Shogun has EVERYTHING to lose. There have been situations like this before gentlemen. For example Story vs Brenneman, Rampage vs Bader, Jung vs Hominick and Shogun vs Griffin 1. Now these are just some recent ones, (other than shogun vs griffin 1) and these may not be good examples due to the other upsets having more ability than vera. That really is my only argument. Guys you have watched mma for awhile, anything can happen. I'm just saying don't be surprised if it does. I know people have an opinion on this so please share it.

Anybody can get Serra'd, I agree, and I see where you are coming from with your angle, but Shogun is going to embarrass this geek on national TV.

    Good post.

      Good post.
Thank you just trying to spark this mma thread. But for the record I will not be shocked. Especially if Shogun takes him too lightly like he did against Forrest the first time.

Shogun was hurt in that fight iirc.

SHOGUN will be here soon, this thread will get hot.

Vera is a very talented fighter, but he hasnt put it together in years, actually ever since he held out for money, he has the tools to beat a lot of guys though

Shogun can lose this, he hasnt been the same since all his knee surgerys and its all about his gas tank, but with that said I dont see Shogun losing this unless Vera goes super lame, wall and stall, go for some TDs and hold and play leg kicks games on the outside for 3 rounds if he gets Shogun frustrated

Shogun was hurt, but he also under estimated him. as for SHOGUN all right sounds good.

The weigh in will tell a lot, when Shogun doesnt train hard or has a lot of injuries it shows in his gut, but also when he is out of shape he goes for quick kills which he can get, but if you can weather the storm he will gas HARD

Vera used to have amazing ability, but he didn't have the mental game after the holdout. Vera was Jon Jones before there was one. The goldenboy who can be the champ of 2 divisions. I could see Vera frustrating Shogun and getting a counter that rocks shogun.

Thread is kind of silly anyway, shotty breakdown by the OP to say the least, this can be said for any fight in MMA

Vera, forever an underachiever. Not even the best fighter in his own family.

Well its hard to make a case for Vera, other than the fact he has nothing to lose. Shogun showed an iron will against hendo in the late rounds so, I can't say stuff about his gas tank. How about you break this down.

I don't think Brandon Vera's skill and ability has ever been in question, but his mental state. Vera has lost his spark ever since the Lloyd Irvin home invasion and I don't think we are ever going to see it again. The last time he showed flashes was against Randy Couture. He takes too long to pull the trigger now and hesitating against someone like Shogun is asking to get finished. Shogun doesn't always put in the most effort in his camps, so Sloppy Shogun might rear his ugly head again, but even with that in mind I still don't see how Vera threatens him. Everything (sans wrestling) that Vera excels at, Shogun is at least a few steps above. I am concerned with Shogun neglecting his kicks for his boxing.

Ultimately, I think that Vera will eventually fold under the flurries and then get hammerfisted out. But I hope that he at least puts on a good show and goes out on his shield.

Indeed. Kerry Vera is a beast standing. A shame she blew out her knee and hurt her spine. I hope she can make a clean comeback. Last I heard, she was supposed to have a fight sometime this year.

There is no reason to believe Shogun will lose to this scrub. He's apparently healthy....his chin has held up well and Vera has looked like shit going back years.

The only headway I'd consider throwing your way is Shogun already thinking about Jones or a rematch with Machida and TUF Brazil.
