Bellator's Season 7 Heavyweight Tournament News

    First news is out..

Begins at Bellator 75 on October 5 in Hammond, Indiana (Chase Beebe headlines the prelims)

Only two of the four fights announced:

    Eric Prindle vs. Thiago Santos
lmao - This is a rematch of the last tournament finals when Santos inexplicably kicked him in the nuts causing a no contest. They were suppose to fight earlier this year but all kinds of shit happened (word was Prindle was ill but Santos kept missing weight...seriously). Prindle ended up getting the tournament win by default and was quickly submitted by champion Cole Konrad.

    Brett Rogers vs. Ruslan Magomedov
Rogers earned his first win in nearly two years in his Bellator debut last month by finishing Kevin Asplund (his first time finishing an opponent since he KO'd Arlovski in Strikeforce). Magomedov is an 8-1 kickboxer out of Russia who beat Ricco Rodriguez in March. BloodyElbow had him as the 6th best heavyweight prospect in the world in January.

Agreed, I know nothing about the Russian, but the other three at least bring something to the table. Prindle is a good story and made himself into a name last season, and Rogers is obviously very recognizable.

I'm sure most of the other four will be jabroni's.

Yeah, not only that, but most of those kind of guys have no interest in 3 fights in 3 months. That's a big hang up when Bjorn tries to sign guys.

Maybe he should spread out the tournaments a bit, but then you run into issues with the champ sitting on the shelf forever. Or the dreaded non title "Superfights" that everybody bitches about for some reason.

Yeah it looks like ProElite is dust, Bellator should scoop up those prospects they had signed up for that failed Grand Prix. Give a guy like Mark Ellis a non tournament fight and see how he does.
