Actually, I think it has to be the Wild. They added two big names from FA, but both provide great two-way play and have the ability to take over a game. The Wild have built up a solid team over the past two seasons, and used FA the way it should be used- build a team from the ground up, and then when you are ready to take the next step find the missing pieces and bring them in. That is what they did.
Obviously everyone is picking Minny since they had the biggest primetme pick ups, but I'll go in a different direction just for something different.
Edmonton I think has had a huge offseason with basically only two moves. Obviously having the first overall pick helps, but the signing of Jeff Schultz now gives them that blueliner they have needed. They basically got two first round picks in one season, adding that to the already impressive young core they have.
I'll aslo throw Tampa Bay in here, as they picked up both Carle and Salo to help the blueline, and with Lindback they get a young starting goalie who wasn't going anywhere behind Rinne in Nashville.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.
Minnesota. Can't wait to see Nash fold under NY pressure.
70 goals.
Minnesota on paper have clearly taken the biggest strides, and it's obviously an unlikely event that either signing is a major bust. Dallas made some serious movement as well, obviously loading up on veterans to try to get right into cup contention.
Whatever teams didn't spend like mad men during FA.
It was hilarious how bad this crop of FA's were outside of parise and suter and even then lets be serious they knew where they were going.
Calgary was probably the best lulz though so I give them the first place prize.
Agreed, and I am glad that the Capitals did not spend the cap space from letting Semin and Knuble go for just a scrub. Doan is nice, but is now wanting too much money. The Ribeiro trade was solid, and if he doesn't work out for whatever reason, we get that cap space at the ennd of the season as well.
Calgary's was just awful. That team needs to rebuild from the minors up in the worst way, and they just keep putting it off.
