Yep, I trained at a local gym called Knockout MMA on and off for a year and a half. Even had a 2-0 amateur record but due to school and gym ownership issues dropped out. Hopefully the plan is to be training at Roufusport by next week to go all in on this shit.
Has watching MMA made you want to train?

K-1 made me want to compete in Muay Thai (still want to tbh), but I (briefly) switched to MMA because (a) my MT teacher kept moving further away from me and (b) I figured I never had a chance at being a professional nakmuay since I never saw any Americans compete at the higher levels of the sport. I solely do BJJ now and I love it. There's still a chance I might go back to MMA down the line, but right now I'm content with just trying to be awesome at grappling.

Training MMA is what got me into watching MMA. I was training boxing since maybe 6th grade, then quit that gym due to the guy who owned the gym was a fucking drunk who slept in his office whose old dad did most of the work at the gym. Then one in 2002 day my parents and I were eating at a fastfood restaurant (Bakers. Good Shit). We saw this place that said shark tank and my mom (who is terrified of sharks) thought it was a place that sold sharks. So we go up to it and see its a gym. It wasn't open at the time but my mom wanted me to get involved in something again so decided to come back later. I got a free one day trial, got my butt kicked and signed up. The training focus was kickboxing, bjj & grappling.
Since going to college I've had to drop out because it just too expensive for me at the moment but i'd love to get back into it later in life.
TL;DR I started training in the kids program in 2002 at rancho cucamonga shark tank. Then got involved in watching MMA.

Not really...when I first got into the sport, it wasn't that popular...now that it's popular, I felt like I was too old to be training toward some sort of MMA career...
I've thought about going into a BJJ gym and using it as a workout, as something different, but I really don't feel like getting punched in the face or tapped out for no reason. Plus, down here in Florida, lots of latino hot heads use the gyms to try and alpha themselves up. I am sure I'll get into some form of MA just to change up the fitness at some point.Comment

MMA is probably the only sport that I've ever really wanted to get involved in, at some level, any level. Whether it just be training, or somehow getting in on the business side having a job in the sport. I see MMA as the only true competitive sport that there is, everything else is just a game involving over-paid athletes. So with that said, there's a huge passion in me to get a taste of it in some form or another.
But, I haven't really done too much. I've taken a few classes back when I was in college, nothing I'd ever consider actual training. At the moment I'd love to, but my schedule won't allow it (semi-excuse). My life right now is go to work, come home and do more work, sleep, repeat, 7 days a week.
Pittsburgh fight club out in the Moon area is pretty nice. There are a handful of other gyms as well throughout the city, but PFC probably has the best facility.Comment

Shogun, what style they teaching you? More sport based? Or self defense? All gi? Or do you split time with no gi?Liquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

It's primarily gi. We only have one no-gi technique class a week, but we do spend two weeks every month sparring no-gi.

From your other posts it sounds more sport bjj focused, de la riva, x guard and stuff like that which is cool, way more fun
You guys do a lot of spiral or reverse de la riva? And probably do the berimbolo?Liquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

I am a total whore for fancy sweeps and really want to learn the berimbolo, but I want be good at the basics first. I intend to focus the first half of next year on DLR. I'm still working on attacking from closed guard without opening it. Right now it's Flower Sweep, Omoplata or bust.
