PWI has been a mess for awhile, they would almost (IMO) be better served if they just covered American wrestling. it's clear they don't spend a ton of time with the overseas stuff and obviously can't cover it correctly, so why do it half assed?

I think another problem with PWI, is they are kinda kayfabe, kinda not. Pick a side. Either do real jouranlism or go back to the 80's approach of treating everything like its a shoot and just have some fun with it.Comment

biss, do you still know of guys paying to be on the list? I know for a fact guys did this back in the 90's.Comment

Looking back at those old 500's from the 90's, you'd have Random Indie Guy at #417 or something, complete with amazingly detailed bio & large studio photo. Meanwhile, #418 would be a two line generic blurb ("Takes no guff from rulebreakers...really on a tear in Alabama indies...") with no photo. I mean, it's not hard to connect those dots lol.Comment

I remember a funny story Bill Apter told once, about bringing Mike Quackenbush to a PWI 500 meeting. Apter told Quack, 'this is an American centric deal, so don't suggest any japanese guys'. So the meeting starts, and they say, ok, any ideas for #1? And Quack stands up and says, "Yeah, Kobashi!". Immediately one of the editors gets into this heated argument with Quack, who tells everybody off, calls them racists, and storms out of the room. Apter apologizes to the table, and runs off to find Quack. Quack is waiting for him in the hall, and bursts out laughing, along with everybody else, because the whole thing was a work and they were fucking with Apter.
Probably funnier when Apter tells it.Comment
