Carroll seals West Ham loan move

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has joined West Ham on a season-long loan before the transfer deadline, with the Hammers having the option to complete a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee next summer.

Andy Carroll can no longer command a first-team place at Liverpool

Carroll, 23, has been linked with a move all summer and a West Ham statement read: "West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of England striker Andy Carroll on a season-long loan deal."

The move sees him reunited with his former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce and captain Kevin Nolan and the striker is delighted to be getting a chance to play regular football after new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers revealed he wanted to offload him.

"It's great to be here at West Ham and all signed up - I just can't wait to get started now," Carroll said. "I want to be playing games and obviously hoping to score some goals. I know the manager well and some of the lads, so it is nice for me to come to a place where I know people.

"I'm hoping to add a lot of goals and create a few chances. I know Sam from Newcastle and he was a massive reason for me coming. When I worked with him at Newcastle it was great so it was a no-brainer really."

Allardyce was also understandably pleased to welcome Carroll to east London.

He said: "I think for all parties this is a great signing. Andy is an all-round footballer, but because he is 6' 3" and one of his strengths is his aerial power, everybody dismisses the ability he possesses on the floor.

"Hopefully he can score goals for us and we will be in a very good position at the end of the year in the Barclays Premier League."

    Making room for Dempsey?

Its crazy to me that he is only 23. I bet he balls out at West Ham.

You really think we'll get Llorente? I bet we end up dropping way too much on Sturridge. Llorente was the guy we couldn't get when we brought in Carroll.

If we bring another striker at a decent price, I guess I'm alright with the move. If we don't, then its a dumb one.

I'd settle for Sturridge but I think llorente is possible, he's only 10 months left they could lose him for nothing, its very obvious after tonight we need more than just Dempsey.

Yeah you're not getting Sturridge. He's kind of a crucial part of our team, seeing as we have no other 1st team strikers besides him and Torres.

Its been obvious for a year that we need at the bare minimum one good finisher. I just don't see where the money will be coming from to buy Llorente.

He's so crucial that he plays every week.

By every week I mean, 10 minutes.

                  It's been two weeks.

Torres isn't going to play every minute. We're playing so many games that Sturridge will get plenty of minutes. He's also our only cover for Torres.

I remember last year when RDM played Sturridge wide all the time after taking the job over from AVB. And by all the time I mean sparingly.

Because we had Drogba and Torres ahead of him at his natural position and RDM prefers playing with midfielders on the wing, not strikers. Same reason why he hasn't featured much these first two weeks.

Sturridge takes over the #2 striker role, which Torres had 49 appearances in last year. Sturridge won't probably have quite that many, but he'll get more than plenty.

So you spent all summer trying to bring in Moses to play third choice striker? You sure as hell didn't bring Moses in to play on the wing after buying Marin, Hazard, and Oscar. Someone is going to have to leave or else they're going to watch their career stall.

Yes we did. Moses provides an entirely different option than Marin/Hazard/Oscar/Mata. He's also not a striker.

The starting teamsheet up top comes down to:
                          One of: Torres/Sturridge

                          One of: Ramires(R)/Bertrand(L)/Moses(R/L)
                          Two of: Mata/Hazard/Oscar/Marin

In order to try and win all the competitions Chelsea is playing in, they need a deep squad with lots of options. Any combination of those players works and it provides RDM with tons of tactical options. All of those players listed will get their minutes barring injury.

                            Good luck with that.

By the way, you better get him a new deal now or prepare to see him walk in Jan, when someone else offers him a contract.

First of all other clubs can't offer a contract to a player until they've had a transfer bid accepted. Second of all a player's transfer is contingent upon the player and new club agreeing to a new contract.
