EVOLVE 17 - 9/8/12 - *LIVE SHOW UPDATES HERE FROM W2B*
Jon Davis storms the ring, and steals the mic from Lenny Leonard to open the show. He is demanding an EVOLVE championship. Lockerroom empties (Jigsaw, Swann, Lince Dorado, AR Fox, others), they all have Davis's back and are demanding a title.
Ricochet comes out and cuts a bad heel promo on AR Fox.
Johnny Gargano comes out and says EVOLVE already has a title, his Open the Freedom Gate title. Davis disarees. Gargano says, "if you want a title, how about beat me for mine RIGHT NOW?!"
Davis acccepts. The match is on, and is opening the show. Davis vs Gargano for the Open the Freedom Gate championship. Davis still says he will retire if he loses.
JOHNNY GARGANO RETAINS OPEN THE FREEDOM GATE CHAMPIONSHIP VIA COUNTOUT
Davis was punishing Gargano on the outside, got cocky, Gargano hit a faceplant out of nowhere, rolled in at 19.
Gargano cut a promo asking Davis not to retire based on a lame CO loss. Out of nowhere, Davis KILLS him with a clothsline, then powerbombs him from the ring through a table on the outside. HEEL TURN!
The match was ok, but the angle was AWESOME. Very effective turn. Crowd ate it up.
And it looks like the stupid retirement gimmick is still in place for Jon Davis, which keeps giving away his finishes. I hope this has a good payoff. Maybe he'll lose, and then snap and go heel and not honor the stip.
DUF wins, with Callihan using his new "Callihan Death Clutch".
Callihan calls out Masada, so he's there after all. Double duty for Callihan. Looks like they used the tag match to get the new move over, which is basically the old Taz choke from ECW.
Callihan spitting up blood and vomiting. Injury angle. Match was weird, looks like they tried to do a worked shoot deal with stiff kicks to the head. They way they are talking though, it seems like an angle. Idk.
Much better crowd than the Florida triple shot, but smaller than the DGUSA Chicago/Detroit shows, i'd say about 200-250, they should really keep EVOLVE in the northeast.
