I spent half a day in Memphis once. There was Lawler, hawking some shit product on a giant billboard, and then again at Corky's BBQ in the lobby on a giant autographed poster. I suspect if I had spent a week there, I would have seen Lawler's face a hundred more times. In Memphis, if Elvis is 1A, Lawler is 1B.

He's still 1B and wrestling is basically irrelevant nationally. Guy could run for mayor of Memphis and win in a landslide. The day Lawler dies, the city of Memphis will close business for a day. That's real talk.

I hate WWE Jerry Lawler's character...the commentating sucks, when he was a wrestler, he was crap.

But Memphis and Territory Jerry. I actually dig a lot of the shit they did. He's got a plethora of memorable moments, whether its Andy Kaufman or fireballs to the face or feuding in the AWA.

(it'll take you to the rest)

At your average indy, odds are the people call 911 and have to wait however long.
Really? That was one of my first thoughts. They had docs on standby and even Cole mentioned an ambulance being on-hand at the end of the show. The only place he would have been better off is having it in a hospital. If he would have been at home or a hotel, he'd be dead.

Lawler needs to go on a fucking vacation.

That nigga has worked 365 for 40 years.

          Take a break.

The creepiest part of the broadcast was going back and listening to him starting to slur his speech about 5 minutes before the heartattack. You can tell he had something wrong with him but he was fighting through it to get through the broadcast...stumbling his words, slurring speech, a bit of lethargy in his voice. Pretty creepy shit knowing in hindsight that he's suffering the start of a heart attack.

I would legitimately be sad if he died. Happy to hear he is doing alright.

At one point you see a shot in the match with the announce table in the back and Jerry's head is down to the side and he looks like he's clutching his arm (as has been reported) right after those sounds. Scary ass shit man. At the time of the match I was curious as to why the fans were chanting "Jerry!" and I didn't really even notice them looking towards the announce table until I rewinded it after Cole's first announcement following the break. I did notice the audio just go silent for a good last 3 minutes of the match and thought that was odd.

WMC is the local station that ran Memphis wrestling on Saturdays for like 100 years.

If Lawler was anywhere else in the world...anywhere at all...he'd be dead this morning.

WWE always has droves of paramedics on scene and were able to respond at the snap of a finger when he went down. If he was at home, or at a hotel, or driving down the street or even parked outside of a hospital...ol boy is dead today.

Why is a 62 year old Jerry Lawler still being booked in matches? They did this shit with Flair up until recently too, I don't get it.

The Shiek, not the Iron Shiek, wrestled well into his 70's. He wrestled a fire death match in FMW and collapsed right afterwards. These guys just can't let it go.

That or any sporting event where serious physical injury could occur. You have paramedics in an ambulance on standby at any high school football game as well. All collegiate and pro games are going to have them regardless of sport.
