This guy makes it so easy to dislike him.

To paraphrase Tyrion Lannister, we've had dumb sports commissioners, and we've had asshole sports commissioners, but I don't know if we've ever been cursed with a dumb asshole commissioner until now.

Great post by DocG over on the Observer board on why more shows are, in a way, responsible for 'causing' injuries:

Yes and no. I do think too many shows does effect the injury situation, albeit maybe not to a huge degree.

It's basic supply and demand. There will always be a spot that the UFC is desperate to fill.

You don't have to worry so much about getting hurt because as soon as you are ready you will pretty much get a fight within a month or two because the UFC is that desperate. Combine this with the fact that if you fight hurt and lose, you are going to lose a lot of momentum and money.

Jon Jones may have thought twice about pulling out of the fight if he didn't think he was going to get a payday for the rest of the year because all the spots were all full.

The UFC has made pulling out of fights for a hangnail an economically sound decision.

How do they fix the issue with the insurance policy they have?

          um, less shows.

The issue is not the injuries. The injuries simply exemplify the lack of depth and the ridiculous number of shows. If they ran 30% less shows, the injuries would have far less impact because the shows would still be deep enough to not be total shit. Also, you wouldn't have to rob peter to pay paul to fill injury slots by taking guys off of other cards (thus weakening those cards) as replacements.

You'd think after they were forced to cancel a show due to depth issues, that Dana would get it. But he doesn't. He passed the buck onto Jon Jones & Greg Jackson, and amazingly, a lot of people bought it.

In reality, there were probably other shows that should have been scrapped over the last year or so, but they pulled the trigger on 151 because they had a built in scape goat to take the heat.

            2012 -- 30 scheduled shows (29 b/c of 151 cancelation)
            2011 -- 26 shows
            2010 -- 23 shows
            2009 -- 19 shows
            2008 -- 19 shows

I'd say, just to make sure you don't run into problems of having so many fights come undone (for whatever reason) and being left with shit or stuck in the mud....25~ shows seems to be a sound number. 4 on Fox, 12 PPV, 4 on Fuel, 5 on FX....or however you want to divide the numbers.

He didn't miss the point when that's one of the arguments people bring up when complaining about too many shows, the article you posted proves that. So he didn't miss the point, he just didn't address all of the points.
